Last year the procession ran 18:00–19:00; confirm the 2026 hour on the market site. 13 December 2026 is a Sunday, so the market is open 13:00–22:00. The festival is free.

Advent market on Kollwitzplatz in Prenzlauer Berg

A few minutes’ walk west of the Kulturbrauerei, Kollwitzplatz hosts an Advent market on every Sunday in Advent 2026 (berlin.de): fair-trade, organic, neighbourhood-scale gifts and food rather than a glühwein spectacle. It pairs well with Lucia, which opens at 13:00 on Sundays. The surrounding streets (Kollwitzstraße, Husemannstraße, the water tower) are lit for Christmas and make a natural stroll between the two. The on-site GDR museum (free) fits the same loop.

WeihnachtsZauber at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin

For Berlin’s showcase square after the Nordic courtyard, ride U2 toward Mitte for WeihnachtsZauber at Gendarmenmarkt. visitBerlin confirms 23 November to 31 December 2026, Sunday–Thursday 12:00–22:00, Friday–Saturday until 23:00, shorter on Christmas Eve, until midnight on New Year’s Eve. Admission is 2 EUR (under-12s free; free for everyone Monday–Friday 12:00–14:00 except 24, 25, 26 and 31 December). Heated gourmet tents, a stage programme and crafts – the opposite of Lucia’s free inner courtyard. No dogs.

Berliner Weihnachtszeit at the Red City Hall

Between the TV tower, St. Mary’s Church and the Red City Hall sits Berlin’s big classic city market. 2026 dates had not been updated on visitBerlin in early September (last season: 24 November to 30 December 2025, free entry). A daytime Rathaus visit plus an evening at Lucia works well – U2/U5 and S-Bahn link Prenzlauer Berg and Alexanderplatz in a few stops. Pyramid, stalls and Berlin snacks; louder and more tourist-facing than the Kulturbrauerei.

The WinterCottage market on Schlossplatz in front of the Humboldt Forum is listed by visitBerlin from 18 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 – earlier and later than Lucia. The market at Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church on Kurfürstendamm is confirmed 23 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. Both are separate trips: Mitte versus City West. Lucia stays the Nordic anchor in Prenzlauer Berg. A three-market Saturday (Schlossplatz, then Gendarmenmarkt, then Lucia from 15:00) is realistic if you start early.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Berlin

• Getting there: U2 to Eberswalder Straße or Senefelderplatz; S-Bahn S8/S41/S42/S85 Schönhauser Allee; tram M1, M10 or 12 to Eberswalder Straße. The Sredzkistraße underground car park fills quickly, says visitBerlin – public transport is the better bet. A few U-Bahn minutes from the TV tower.
• Weather and clothing: Open courtyards, wind between the brick walls, wet stone. Warm shoes, hat and scarf are not optional; the coat heater and yurt only thaw you briefly. For the 13 December Lucia procession, arrive early – the yard fills up.
