Program and Schedule: What to Expect in 2027

Street carnival begins on Thursday, February 4, 2027, with Weiberfastnacht and continues through Carnival Saturday and Sunday up to its peak on Rose Monday, February 8. The parade assembles around Josef and Boppstrasse, then moves along Kaiserstrasse and Grosse Bleiche toward Gutenbergplatz and the Höfchen square. In parallel, Mainz carnival clubs hold numerous indoor galas over several weeks, some of which are broadcast live on television. The season closes on Carnival Tuesday and Ash Wednesday with traditional herring meals.

Tickets and Admission for Mainz Carnival

Street carnival, above all the Rose Monday parade, can be watched along the route completely free of charge. Indoor galas hosted by the clubs, held in venues such as the Rheingoldhalle congress hall or the Electoral Palace, require tickets. Prices typically range from around 35 euros for simpler galas up to more than 100 euros for gala evenings that include food and drinks. Tickets are sold through the individual clubs' websites as well as ticket platforms.

Visitor Tips: Travel and Accommodation in Mainz

  • Expect heavy crowds and road closures in the city center on Rose Monday, so arriving by train or public transport is recommended
  • Early February is cold in Mainz, so warm layers under a costume are a good idea
  • Finding a good viewing spot along the parade route early in the day pays off
  • Hotels in Mainz and the wider Rhine Main region should be booked well ahead of the carnival days
  • Tickets for popular galas often sell out months in advance, so buying early is worthwhile
