Program

The market is open on five weekends (Thursday to Sunday, plus 7 and 8 December). Visitors can stroll past the traditional wooden huts from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM (until 6:00 PM on Sundays). A special highlight is the diverse musical program, such as the Mariazell Advent Concert on 5 December or the large peace concert during the opening weekend, which beautifully underlines the spiritual character of the market.

Tickets

Admission to the Advent market on the main square is completely free. However, special concerts and readings (such as those inside the Basilica) require tickets, which can be purchased in advance via the official website.

Visitor Tips

  • Because the market is located in the Alps, warm winter clothing and sturdy footwear are absolutely essential.
  • Attending an early morning Rorate mass in the Basilica (often at 6:00 AM) offers an unforgettable, deeply spiritual experience.
  • Arriving via the scenic Mariazellerbahn railway is a relaxing and romantic alternative to driving, especially on snowy winter days.
  • Please note that the market is only open from Thursday to Sunday (as well as 7 and 8 December).
  • Be sure to taste local specialties such as Mariazeller gingerbread (Lebkuchen) and traditional herbal liqueur.
