Welcome to the Praza do Nadal 2026/2027 in A Coruna

Praza do Nadal 2026/2027 turns Plaza de María Pita in A Coruña into the city’s Christmas meeting point again. Since 13 October 2026 the council has been fitting the square as a Christmas village with food stalls, lights, a music stage and a family area. Entry to the square is free. This is not the Feira Artesá do Nadal: that craft fair is in the Jardines de Méndez Núñez, not on María Pita.

Highlights & Attractions at Praza do Nadal in A Coruna

  • A Christmas village in the historic centre, in front of the town-hall palace on Plaza de María Pita.
  • Three linked zones, according to the council note of 9 October 2026: food, a central area with a large Christmas tree and a music stage, and a family area.
  • Five hospitality stalls for local restaurants and bars, serving sweet and savoury seasonal food and mulled wine, plus a covered seating area. This is not the roughly 50-stall market of 2025/2026.
  • Casa de Papá Noel, a classic carousel, a polar train and a lit Xardín do Nadal for children.
  • A music stage for the cultural programme. The detailed bill had not been published by mid-October 2026.
  • Christmas lighting on the square and, once switched on, along the surrounding city-centre streets.
  • Free access to the plaza. The rides are limited and paid, and food and drink are paid as well.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

A single opening day for the whole Praza do Nadal had not been set by mid-October 2026. What is published is the window for the two children’s rides: the municipal call allows the carousel and the polar train from 27 November 2026 to 10 January 2027 on the left side of the square. More than two rides are expressly ruled out. Setup began on 13 October 2026 at Porta Real and is planned to continue for several weeks. The mayor spoke of about seven to eight weeks.

Published ride hours: from 27 November to 18 December, afternoons only, 17:00 to 21:00. From 19 December, and on Sundays, also mornings from 11:00 to 15:00. On Fridays, Saturdays and eves of public holidays, until 23:00. For 24, 25 and 31 December and for 1 and 5 January, the city will agree hours with the operator, and it may change times for safety or weather. Stall hours and the date of the city light switch-on had not been published at the time of research. In recent years the switch-on has taken place on María Pita toward the end of November. The music-stage programme will follow once the council releases it.

Tickets & Admission for Praza do Nadal A Coruna

You do not need a ticket to be on Plaza de María Pita. Food, drinks and rides are extra. Under the municipal call, one turn on the carousel or the polar train may not cost more than 3 euro including tax. The operator must give the city at least 3,650 free ride tickets for traders’ associations and local shops. Prices for food and drink at the five stalls had not been published by mid-October 2026. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in A Coruna

  • Plaza de María Pita is in the historic centre and easy to reach on foot. A Coruña-San Cristóbal railway station is about a 20-minute walk. A Coruña Airport (Alvedro, LCG) is about 8 km out. Public car parks in the centre are more reliable than hunting for a space beside the square.
  • In December and early January the Atlantic coast is often wet, windy and mild, commonly around 8 to 14 °C. A waterproof jacket, sturdy shoes and an extra layer for the evening matter more than festive clothes alone.
  • City-centre rooms fill up between the holidays and New Year. Book ahead if you want the lights and 5 January.
  • Feira Artesá do Nadal is a separate event: its second edition runs from 5 December 2026 to 5 January 2027 in the Jardines de Méndez Núñez, with a maximum of 27 craft stands, open 11:30–14:30 and 17:00–21:00. Mornings only on 24 and 31 December. Closed on 25 December and 1 January.
  • Beyond María Pita, walk the lit axes of the centre once the lights are on, including the Marina, Calle Real and the Cantones, and the glass galleries of the old town. The Cabalgata de Reyes is already mentioned for 5 January 2027 in municipal material. Check the council shortly beforehand for the route and time.
