Welcome to the Merseburg Castle Christmas Market 2026 in Merseburg
The Merseburg Castle Christmas Market takes place from 3 to 6 December 2026 in the unique cathedral and castle ensemble. Between the Renaissance castle and the Imperial Cathedral, the inner courtyard, outer courtyard and Domplatz transform into a atmospheric Christmas market. Organised by the Cultural Office of the City of Merseburg, the event offers regional specialities, handicrafts and a varied programme in a historic setting. Admission is free.

The Merseburg Castle Christmas Market traditionally opens on the second Advent weekend. Typical opening hours based on previous years are Thursday and Friday from 15:00 to 20:00, Saturday from 11:00 to 20:00 and Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00. The market extends across the inner courtyard, outer courtyard and Domplatz. Official opening by the mayor usually takes place on Friday. On Saturday there is the traditional stollen cutting and a St. Nicholas parade. On Sunday family programmes and often a fire show conclude the market. Fairy-tale hours and live music invite visitors to linger throughout.
