Welcome to the Medieval Market Turku 2026
From 25 to 28 June 2026, the historic Vanha Suurtori (Old Great Square) in the heart of Turku transforms into a living medieval city. Medieval Turku (Keskiajan Turku) is Finland's largest and oldest medieval and historical festival, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026. The 2026 edition welcomed over 151,000 visitors, making it one of the biggest cultural events in the Nordic region.

Programme & Opening Hours
The festival takes place at the Vanha Suurtori (Old Great Square) and its surrounding areas, including Porthan's Park, the Brinkkala Courtyard and the Art House Turku courtyard. Opening hours are Thursday and Friday from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
The programme is produced by Turun Suurtorin keskiaika ry in collaboration with Aboa Vetus Ars Nova Museum, Turku Cathedral, Turku Castle and Rohan Stables. The programme brings together science, art and entertainment. Craftspeople in Porthan's Park demonstrate authentic medieval techniques, while minstrels and jesters wander among the crowds. Turku Castle and the Cathedral host special guided tours and medieval concerts as part of the wider festival experience.
Admission & Tickets
Admission to the Medieval Market Turku is completely free on all four days. No tickets are required. Members of the press do not need to register separately either. Some partner venues or evening events may charge their own separate entrance fees.
Visitor Tips
- Costumes are warmly encouraged and add to the immersive atmosphere of the festival.
- The Vanha Suurtori is less than one kilometre from Turku's central Market Square (Kauppatori) and easy to reach on foot.
- Weekends draw the largest crowds; arrive early to enjoy the market stalls and performances without queues.
- Flying drones over the event area is strictly prohibited for safety reasons.

- Book accommodation in Turku well in advance as hotels fill up quickly during the festival.
