Welcome to the Mölln Christmas Market 2026 in Molln
The Mölln Christmas Market 2026 runs on all four Advent weekends: 27–29 November, 4–6 December, 11–13 December and 18–20 December. It is organised by Tourismus- und Stadtmarketing Mölln on the historic market square of the Till Eulenspiegel town, with an indoor Gift World in the Historic Town Hall. This is not a daily market: Friday 15:00–20:00, Saturday and Sunday 12:00–20:00, with food and drink possibly until 22:00. Admission is free.
Mölln sits in the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park in Schleswig-Holstein, between Lübeck, Ratzeburg and Lüneburg. From Mölln (Lauenburg) station or the bus station it is a 7–12 minute walk to the square. After several “Crazy Christmas” themed years, 2026 returns to a more classic Advent mood, with a small spark of playfulness kept. The centrepiece is the Christmas tree with thousands of lights and red baubles, promoted as one of the finest in northern Germany.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
Unlike the all-week markets in Kiel or Lübeck, Mölln is a weekend market. Official 2026 blocks are 27–29 Nov, 4–6 Dec, 11–13 Dec and 18–20 Dec. Friday 15:00–20:00, Saturday and Sunday 12:00–20:00; bars may stay until 22:00. Local paper LN reported in January 2026 that the market opens at 15:00 on 27 November. Always recheck moelln-tourismus.de. Outdoors is food around the tree; indoors is the Gift World with rotating makers – exhibitors can also book single weekends.
The Christmas city walk is bookable every Advent weekend: 60 minutes through the lit old town, groups of 4 to 25, meeting on the historic square in front of the tourist office at Am Markt 12. Fridays from 15:00; the booking page lists Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00. From 18 EUR per person you get a voucher for wild sausage and mulled wine. Clubs and companies of 12 or more can enquire about exclusive hire of the punch hut outside public hours. After the colourful Crazy Christmas years, 2026 leans classic: small, local and built for lingering, not for stadium crowds.
Open-air market on Marktplatz in Molln
The historic square is the heart of the 2026 market. Under the tall tree with thousands of lights and red baubles stand the huts for mulled wine, grill, Mutzen and hearty food. Timber houses and the brick tower of St. Nicolai frame the scene; a few steps away is the Eulenspiegel fountain, its bronze toes polished by visitors. The square is compact: an hour covers the stalls, three hours covers punch, tree photos and an old-town loop. Listings describe the site as accessible and pushchair-friendly – still wear non-slip shoes if the cobbles ice over.
Gift World in the Historic Town Hall in Molln
The Gift World is the indoor half of the market, on the same Advent weekends (27 November to 20 December 2026, Friday 15:00–20:00, Saturday and Sunday 12:00–20:00). Regional artisans sell one-offs: Advent arrangements, handmade clothing, jewellery, candles and decorations. Stock changes by weekend. Shop here first, then eat outside by the tree – splitting crafts and food keeps the square uncluttered. Entrance and tourist information share Am Markt 12, 23879 Mölln.
Forest Christmas at Uhlenkolk Wildlife Park in Molln
The official 2026 event calendar lists a Forest Christmas (Waldweihnacht) at the Uhlenkolk wildlife park and environment centre (Waldhallenweg 11) on 13 December. The 2025 debut ran 14 December, 11:00–17:00, with free entry: huts at the round village and charcoal-burner’s hut, honey, felt, pottery, wild sausage, stick bread, honey baked apples, children’s theatre and a lantern walk. Confirm 2026 hours and the stage list closer to the date. The park is a short hop from the square and is the nature-side counterpart to the old-town market.
Ratzeburg Island Advent – Mölln’s neighbouring lake
About ten kilometres north, Ratzeburg’s Island Advent is confirmed for 5 and 6 December 2026. Cathedral peninsula, lake shore and small stalls make a quieter, almost island Advent – an easy add-on on the second Advent weekend while Mölln’s market is also open. 29 November 2026 brings the 36th Advent run around the lake; 19 December a Christmas oratorio in the cathedral. The Kiel–Lübeck–Lüneburg regional train links Ratzeburg and Mölln directly. Details: ratzeburg-tourismus.de.
Lübeck Christmas Markets – the Christmas capital of the north
About 30 minutes north, Lübeck styles itself the Christmas capital of northern Germany. Confirmed 2026 dates include the traditional market at the Town Hall from 23 November to 30 December, the historic market in St. Mary’s churchyard until 23 December, the star forest at Schrangen and the fairytale forest by St. Mary’s until 30 December, crafts in St. Peter’s until 14 December, Holy Spirit Hospital 29 November–6 December, plus maritime markets and the Niederegger bazaar. UNESCO streets and marzipan are the big-city contrast to Mölln’s little square. Sleep by the lakes in Mölln and take a Saturday train to Lübeck – or reverse the plan.
Gut Basthorst Christmas Market on the Hamburg fringe
Gut Basthorst (Auf dem Gut 3, 21493 Basthorst) is the region’s large park market: around 250 exhibitors, regularly ranked among Germany’s most beautiful. 2026: pre-Christmas bazaar 20–22 November, then the same four Advent weekends as Mölln (27–29 Nov, 4–6 Dec, 11–13 Dec, 18–20 Dec), Friday–Sunday 11:00–19:00. Admission 8 EUR; children and teens up to 15 free with an adult; parking free. Expect flamed salmon, potato pancakes, several punches, carriage rides and a kids’ programme. It is a ticketed estate market, not a town square – visit it on a different weekend from Mölln’s free old-town market.
Büchen and other markets in the Duchy of Lauenburg
Around Mölln, smaller volunteer markets fill the calendar. Büchen plans its Christmas market on 12 and 13 December 2026 at Bürgerplatz and the civic hall. Lauenburg on the Elbe stages a seasonal market at the castle; Gudow and other villages often choose a single Advent Sunday. Village dates firm up in autumn – ln-online.de and parish notices are the best check. Together with Mölln, Ratzeburg and Basthorst you get a dense Advent map between the Elbe-Lübeck Canal, Schaalsee and the Hamburg hinterland without needing a big city.
Tickets & Admission for the Mölln Christmas Market Molln
Entry to the open-air market and the Town Hall Gift World is free; there is no day ticket. You pay only for food, drink and optional extras. The Christmas city walk starts at 18 EUR per person (60 minutes, sausage and mulled-wine voucher included, groups of 4–25, book via moelln-tourismus.de). Groups of 12 or more can enquire about private hire of the punch hut outside public hours. 2026 cup and snack prices had not been posted as fixed lists; comparable mulled wine in Schleswig-Holstein was often around 4 EUR in 2025. Gut Basthorst (a separate event) charges 8 EUR admission. Updates: Tourist Information, Am Markt 12, phone +49 4542 97651-0, [email protected].
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Molln
- Getting there: Rail station Mölln (Lauenburg) on the Kiel–Lübeck–Ratzeburg–Büchen–Lüneburg line; 7–12 minutes on foot from the station or ZOB to the square. Hamburg is about 45–60 minutes via Büchen, Lübeck about half an hour. Last season, city buses in the HVV Mölln town-fare zone were free on Advent Saturdays and Sundays from midnight to 06:00 the next day – ask whether that returns in 2026. By car use B207 from Mölln South toward the centre. Public parking is free at weekends year-round; extra Advent parking (Kurpark and spa-garden lots in 2025) should be rechecked.
- Weather and clothing: The square sits open between timber houses and the church. Expect wind, rain and Friday dusk by mid-afternoon. Waterproof shoes, a hat and layers beat festive outfits. Friday does not open until 15:00 – arrive around 16:00 if you want the tree at blue hour.
- Where to stay: Old town and the lakes (Schulsee, Stadtsee, spa gardens) make Mölln a calm Advent base, but rooms are limited. Lübeck and Ratzeburg are backups. Book the first and last Advent weekends early. The tourist office on the square can point you to guesthouses and holiday flats.
- While you are there: Square and Town Hall first, then St. Nicolai and the Eulenspiegel fountain; a lake or canal walk if daylight remains. Pencil in Forest Christmas at the wildlife park on 13 December 2026 and Island Advent in Ratzeburg on 5–6 December. Dogs appear as a FAQ on the organiser site without a published rule – ask before you travel.
- When to go: Saturday afternoon is the classic slot (from 12:00, food until 22:00). Friday evening is shorter but atmospheric once the tree is lit. Sunday is often better for families. Shop the Gift World first before indoor stalls wind down. The market ends on 20 December 2026; there is no extra Christmas Eve session here.
