From 20 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, Traben-Trarbach hosts a truly one-of-a-kind Christmas experience. Europe's only underground Christmas market takes visitors deep into the frost-free, atmospheric depths of historic wine cellars. Set inside the mystical "Underworld," the market combines the rich aromas of Mosel wine, regional delicacies, and festive artisan crafts.

Program
The market opens from Friday to Sunday between 11:00 AM and 9:00 PM leading up to Christmas. Following Christmas (December 26–30), it opens daily. Inside the labyrinthine, softly lit cellars across the town, exhibitors and winemakers showcase products ranging from wine and wellness items to antiques and creative design. Please note that the market is closed on Totensonntag (November 22).
Tickets
Admission to explore the underground market cellars is entirely free of charge. Separate tickets may only apply to specific special concerts or evening events held as part of the cultural supporting program.
Visitor Tips
- Since the market is indoors within historic cellars, temperatures are mild, but layering is recommended when walking between different cellar locations outdoors.
- Allow plenty of time to wander through and discover the various interconnected subterranean vaults scattered across the town.
- Sample the authentic regional vintages and spiced mulled wine served in collectible ceramic mugs.
- Book accommodation well in advance as this unique underground market attracts visitors from all over the world.
