Welcome to the Würzburg Mozart Festival 2027

From 29 May to 27 June 2027, the baroque city of Würzburg once again becomes a stage dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Würzburg Mozart Festival dates back to 1921, making it one of the oldest classical music festivals in the German speaking world. Across around 30 venues, most notably the magnificent Kaisersaal of the Würzburg Residence (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the atmospheric "Nachtmusiken" in the illuminated Court Garden, visitors experience roughly 70 to 90 concerts each year, featuring internationally renowned soloists, ensembles and orchestras.

Highlights

  • Opening concert in the baroque Kaisersaal of the Residence
  • Atmospheric open air "Nachtmusiken" in the Court Garden
  • Chamber music and symphony concerts with leading international soloists
  • Performance by the festival's yearly changing "Artiste étoile"
  • Concerts in Würzburg churches and historic wine cellars
  • Mozarttag: the old town becomes an open air concert stage
  • Open air concert at Gut Wöllried outside the old town

Program

Over four weeks, the festival brings music to around 30 locations in and around Würzburg. The main venue remains the Kaisersaal of the Residence, where orchestras and chamber ensembles perform works centered on Mozart; the classical program is complemented by the famous Nachtmusiken in the Court Garden, where candlelight and an open air setting create a special atmosphere. Concerts in Würzburg Cathedral, in regional wine cellars, and the large community event "Mozarttag", during which the entire old town turns into a resounding stage, round out the program. Most evening concerts start at 8:00 PM, often preceded by an introductory talk at 7:15 PM.

Tickets

Advance ticket sales traditionally open at the end of January, and the ticket office in the Mozartareal (Hofstraße 11) opens for personal consultation at the same time. Prices start at around 15 euros and, depending on category and concert, can rise into the higher range. Students and trainees up to age 30 receive a 50 percent discount and can buy last minute tickets at a fixed price of 12 euros starting a few minutes before the performance. Numerous events are free or follow a "pay what you can" model.

Visitor Tips

  • Book popular Kaisersaal concerts early, as they often sell out.
  • The Residence is not air conditioned in summer for conservation reasons; light clothing is recommended.
  • For the Nachtmusiken in the Court Garden, check for possible alternative venues in case of uncertain weather.
  • Large bags and backpacks are not allowed in the state rooms of the Residence; free cloakroom service is available.
  • Traveling by tram (Dom stop) or bus (Residenz stop) is recommended.
