Marienplatz offers classic Bavarian Christmas cheer featuring traditional brass music from the town hall balcony and artisan wooden stalls, usually open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. For a more colorful and alternative vibe, head to the Tollwood Winter Festival. The focus there is on ecology, fair-trade products, international art groups, and a huge selection of organic mulled wine and global specialties served in cozy tents.

Visitor Tips
- The markets are excellently connected to the underground network (U-Bahn stations Marienplatz and Theresienwiese). It is highly recommended to leave the car behind.
- At Tollwood, make sure to try the hot organic Caipirinha or various vegan specialties.
- To avoid the biggest crowds, visit the markets on weekdays in the early afternoon.
- Dress warmly, especially for the wide-open space of the Theresienwiese.
- On Christmas Eve (24 December), the markets typically close early in the afternoon (around 2:00 PM).
