Welcome to the Myfest 2027 in Berlin
Myfest – pronounced like the German “Maifest”, blending that word with English “my” – is Berlin-Kreuzberg’s legendary May Day street festival. Labour Day 2027 falls on Saturday 1 May. Around Mariannenplatz, Oranienstraße, Oranienplatz, Rio-Reiser-Platz (formerly Heinrichplatz) and Kottbusser Tor, streets are closed to cars while hip-hop, punk, electronic music, food stalls and political stands take over the neighbourhood. Admission is free.
Context matters: the officially licensed Myfest run by Netzwerk Myfest / MyFest e.V., with up to 19 stages, operated from 2003 to 2019. It was cancelled in 2020–22 because of the pandemic, and there was no official Myfest from 2023 to 2026 after the district and the former organisers fell out. Berlin.de still says it is unclear whether the branded event will return. Even so, 1 May in Kreuzberg is a huge free street party every year. For 2027, Berlin.de already lists May Day at Mariannenplatz (Slust Openair, a rally and Die Linke’s traditional May festival). Opening hours for 2027 had not been posted as of September 2026; in 2026 the listing said “from 10:00”. Recheck berlin.de and the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office before you travel.
Highlights & Attractions at Myfest in Berlin
- Fully closed streets in SO36: Oranienstraße as a festival strip between Kottbusser Tor, Rio-Reiser-Platz and Mariannenplatz.
- Free entry – you only pay for food, drinks and the occasional cup deposit.
- Multi-genre open air: hip-hop and rap, punk and indie, techno and house, live bands, DJs and performance.
- Neighbourhood street food: grills, börek, falafel, vegan kitchens, beer and Club-Mate from kiosks and pop-ups.
- Daytime family programme: face painting, kids’ theatre, bouncy castle and dance battles, especially at Statthaus Böcklerpark (MayFriends).
- May Day politics: union march in the morning, left-wing stalls, and in the evening the Revolutionary 1 May demo from Oranienplatz.
- Satellite open airs: Görlitzer Park, Mariannenplatz and self-organised yards – even without the 2017 grid of 19 stages (about 200,000 guests that year, according to a co-organiser).

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027
May Day in Kreuzberg is not a ticketed festival with a headliner poster; it is an all-day occupation of the streets. Typical rhythm, based on 2026 and earlier years (2027 acts were not yet published): morning crowds build on Mariannenplatz and Oranienstraße; Berlin.de listed a 10:00 start in 2026, with Mariannenplatz sometimes closed from 12:00. Afternoon means rap, hip-hop and techno, speeches against racism and exclusion, children’s theatre. 2026 names included Fake Bombs, Desiderat, Ivo der Bandit, DJ Gysi, Eurobabes, Grace Thompson, Sikhaya, Epicx and Diana May – treat that as orientation, not a 2027 bill. Evening brings the Revolutionary 1 May demonstration (2026: 18:00 from Oranienplatz towards Neukölln/Südstern) while park and street parties run on, often until 22:00 or later. Walpurgis Night on 30 April is the unofficial warm-up.
Musically Kreuzberg stays raw and mixed: hip-hop stages historically on Naunynstraße, punk and indie around SO36, electronics and open-air raves on Mariannenplatz and in Görli. Add comedy, performance and local DJs. If you are looking for the classic licensed Myfest with 19 stages, know that this format has not returned since 2019. What remains is Berlin’s biggest informal May party – loud, crowded, free and political at the edges. Families are better off by day at Mariannenplatz and Böcklerpark than after 18:00 on the demo route.
Oranienstraße: the Myfest spine in Kreuzberg
Oranienstraße is the backbone, from Kottbusser Tor (U1/U3/U8) towards Oranienplatz and Mariannenplatz: snacks, mobile bars, sound systems and dense crowds. Club SO36, pubs and courtyards spill onto the street. In official Myfest peak years this was a continuous stage chain; today it is more of a self-organised open air. Wear shoes you can stand in, skip the car, travel light. Nearby U-Bahn stops may skip service when packed – that happened in 2026.
Mariannenplatz: May festival, rave and main stage in Berlin
Mariannenplatz 6, 10997 Berlin, is the anchor Berlin.de names for 1 May 2027. In 2026 it hosted the Slust Openair rave, a rally and Die Linke’s traditional May festival, plus a kids’ programme (theatre, face painting). The same formats are already flagged for 2027; hours and artists will follow. Transit: U Görlitzer Bahnhof and U Kottbusser Tor (U1/U3, about 400–500 metres), bus 140 at the square, M29 at Rio-Reiser-Platz. The square is greener and easier to read than Oranienstraße – a good meeting point.
Rio-Reiser-Platz and Oranienplatz on May Day in Berlin
Rio-Reiser-Platz (formerly Heinrichplatz) sits on Oranienstraße and was core Myfest territory. Oranienplatz is the evening demo start (2026: 18:00 along Oranienstraße, Wiener Straße and Glogauer Straße into Neukölln). Daytime means grills, music and stalls; evening means crowds, banners and police lines. If you only want the party, leave before 18:00 or peel off into side streets and parks. If you want the demo, arrive early – turnout delayed the 2026 start.
Görlitzer Park: MaiGörli, rave and park party in Kreuzberg
Görlitzer Park, a short walk from Mariannenplatz, has been the overflow site since 2018 (“MaiGörli”). In 2026 the “Free Görli – Rave Against the Zaun” open-air (registered roughly 08:00–22:30) protested the park’s night-time fence; peak years saw up to 18,000 people. The park stayed open through Walpurgis Night and the night of 1–2 May. 2027 filings were not yet public in September 2026, but the park fills every year. Families should use the afternoon edges; after dark it is loud, packed and hard to scan. U Görlitzer Bahnhof is next door.
MayFriends at Böcklerpark: family May Day in Berlin
Statthaus Böcklerpark (Prinzenstraße / Böcklerpark, Kreuzberg) hosts a children and youth festival. In 2026 it opened at 12:00 on the dance stage: two stages, dance battles with DJ Just-a-Kid, DJ Elmo and DJ Dilo, bouncy castle, climbing tower, archery, waffles and sausages, together with Kreuzberg youth centres. The district funded about 20 “Culture for 1 May” projects with 90,000 EUR to ease pressure on Görli and Mariannenplatz. Check berlin.de/ba-friedrichshain-kreuzberg for 2027; the format is established and the calmest option for families.
Revolutionary 1 May demo and the union march in Berlin
The morning belongs to the DGB union march (in recent years often Strausberger Platz to Rotes Rathaus). The evening belongs to the Revolutionary 1 May demonstration of left alliances. 2026: 18:00 start at Oranienplatz, through Kreuzberg and Neukölln to Südstern; police counted about 10,000, organisers 30,000–35,000. The demo is not Myfest, but it occupies the same streets at the same time. Expect closures, water cannons on standby and possible confrontation. If you want the street festival, go by day; if you want to avoid the demo, leave Oranienplatz before 17:30. The 2027 route is usually published in April.
Walpurgis Night on 30 April: Berlin’s unofficial start
The party often begins the night before. Walpurgis Night (30 April) brings left-wing demos, club nights and spontaneous park scenes; 2025/26 included “Take back the night” at Mariannenplatz. If you want hip-hop and street food with a clear head on 1 May, pace the night. Kreuzberg and Neukölln hotels sell out – 2027 is a Saturday, stretching demand from Friday evening through Sunday.
Carnival of Cultures: Kreuzberg’s other giant street festival
Two weeks after May Day, Kreuzberg hosts the Carnival of Cultures – the more colourful, explicitly intercultural counterpart. According to karneval.berlin: street festival 14–17 May 2027 in Kreuzberg (Blücherplatz), parade on 16 May 2027 in Friedrichshain/Mitte. Free entry, four main stages, music corners, parade groups. If Myfest felt like a chaotic 1 May and you prefer costumes, floats and world music, stay in Berlin over Pentecost 2027. Official site: karneval.berlin. Other neighbourhood dates: Bergmannstraßenfest (summer, Bergmannkiez) and club nights at SO36, Lido and Festsaal Kreuzberg.
Tickets & Admission for Myfest Berlin
There are no tickets. Myfest and May Day at Mariannenplatz are free public street festivals. You pay only for food and drink – typical Berlin snack prices, plus cup deposits. This is not a wristband event. Travel is the only planned cost (on 1 May 2027 Berlin public transport runs a holiday timetable; a single AB ticket or a day pass AB covers Kreuzberg). District tours or side projects may charge small fees; MayFriends at Böcklerpark was free in 2026. Donations to local initiatives are welcome, not required. Updates: berlin.de (May Day / Myfest) and the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Berlin
- Travel by U-Bahn, bus, bike or on foot. Oranienstraße and Mariannenplatz are closed to cars; parking in SO36 is useless on 1 May. Stations: U Kottbusser Tor (U1/U3/U8), U Görlitzer Bahnhof (U1/U3), buses M29 and 140. Stops may be skipped when overcrowded – get off early (Schlesisches Tor, Hallesches Tor, Moritzplatz) and walk.
- Weather and clothing: Berlin on 1 May can be warm and sunny or wet and cold. Solid shoes, layers, a rain jacket, sun and ear protection. No glass, no huge backpacks – bag checks and crush. Cash plus card; many stalls are cash-first.
- Where to stay: Book Kreuzberg, Neukölln and Mitte early – 2027 is a long May weekend (Walpurgis Friday, May Day Saturday). Alternatives: Friedrichshain (RAW, Warschauer Straße) or Prenzlauer Berg, then U-Bahn. If you need quiet after 22:00, do not sleep on Oranienstraße itself.
- Safety: Daytime is mixed and often family-friendly. After dark along the demo route it can get tight and confrontational. Set a meeting point (mobile networks overload), stay in a group, follow police instructions, skip pyrotechnics. Emergency: 110/112. Do not block residents – take your rubbish with you.
- How to combine it: Morning at Böcklerpark or Mariannenplatz, afternoon on Oranienstraße for food and music, decide before 18:00 whether to watch the demo or peel off to Görli. 2 May is quieter – good for SO36, Markthalle Neun or the Landwehrkanal. For a second street festival: Carnival of Cultures, 14–17 May 2027.
