The traditional opening features trombones from the tower of the town church and the cutting of the two-metre-long cherry stollen. The market offers typical winter offerings, handicrafts and culinary treats. Particularly impressive is the large nativity scene with over life-size wooden figures.

Weihnachtliches in den Höfen (Christmas in the Courtyards)

On the first Advent weekend, 28 and 29 November 2026, numerous historic courtyards in Naumburg’s Old Town open their gates. More than 20 lovingly decorated inner courtyards invite visitors with art, crafts, regional specialities, winery mulled wine and Christmas music. The cloister of Naumburg Cathedral is also open. Saturday 13:00–21:00, Sunday 13:00–19:00. Admission is free.

Saale Mulled-Wine Walk

On the second Advent weekend (expected 5 and 6 December 2026) the Saale Mulled-Wine Walk takes place. Along the Saale from Hallescher Anger via several stations up to Schönburg Castle, walkers enjoy mulled wine, regional delicacies and Advent atmosphere. A bus shuttle facilitates the return journey. Admission is free.
