Welcome to the Nativity Street of Naples 2026

Via San Gregorio Armeno in the historic center of Naples is known worldwide as "Christmas Alley." While the artisan workshops are open year-round, from mid-November to 6 January 2027, this narrow street transforms into a vibrant hub of holiday cheer. Here, master craftsmen celebrate the centuries-old tradition of the Neapolitan "Presepe" (Nativity scene) with absolute perfection.

Highlights

  • World-famous, handcrafted "Presepe" (Nativity scenes) and detailed dioramas
  • A unique mix of traditional religious figures alongside caricatures of celebrities, politicians, and footballers
  • Authentic Neapolitan atmosphere right in the heart of Spaccanapoli (Old Town)
  • Dozens of open workshops where you can watch artisans craft figurines by hand
  • Culinary delights: Neapolitan street food like Pizza a Portafoglio, Sfogliatelle, and Babà
  • A pure Southern Italian lifestyle experience unlike traditional Northern European markets

Program

There is no classic stage program here—the street itself is the show. Workshops and stalls generally open around 9:30 AM and close around 8:00 PM, staying open much later on the weekends leading up to Christmas. Throughout December, the street bursts with energy as locals and tourists alike flock to admire the newest creations of the nativity builders and purchase unique additions for their own scenes at home.

Tickets

Via San Gregorio Armeno is a public street in the heart of Naples. Entry is completely free, and no tickets are required. Because it gets incredibly crowded during the Advent weekends, the city occasionally implements a one-way pedestrian system on peak days to manage the flow of visitors.

Visitor Tips

  • The street gets extremely crowded, especially in December. Visiting early in the morning or on weekdays is highly recommended.
  • Due to the dense crowds, be vigilant with your belongings and watch out for pickpockets.
  • Nativity figures range from a few euros to several thousand euros for large, elaborate dioramas. While light haggling is sometimes possible, always respect the artisanal craftsmanship.
  • Be sure to explore the surrounding historic center (Centro Storico) and the Naples Underground (Napoli Sotterranea).
  • The Feast of the Epiphany (La Befana) on 6 January marks the traditional end of the holiday festivities.
