Welcome to the New Year's Eve & New Year 2026/2027 in Alesund

Alesund marks the 2026/2027 turn of the year on the harbour and in its Art Nouveau centre: on 31 December 2026 the public focus is midnight fireworks over Aspevagen, festive lighting on the waterfront and restaurant or hotel evenings. The communal Fellesfyrverkeri by Alesund Saluttlag is planned for midnight from a barge in the basin, provided crowdfunding reaches the stated threshold. 1 January 2027 is typically quiet and winter-still – a good time for a walk along Brosundet and up towards the Aksla viewpoint.

Highlights & Attractions at New Year's Eve & New Year in Alesund

  • Midnight Fellesfyrverkeri from a barge in Aspevagen, organised by Alesund Saluttlag (funded via Spleis; the final scale depends on donations by noon on 31 December).
  • Neighbourhood fireworks between 20:00 and 01:00, except in municipal ban zones covering large parts of Aspoya, parts of Norvoya, and Ona/Husoya.
  • Panoramic views from Mount Aksla and Fjellstua across islands, the harbour and lit Art Nouveau terraces.
  • Winter lights and waterfront atmosphere along Brosundet, Molja, Skateflukaia and the quay promenade.
  • New Year tasting menus and bar nights at harbour restaurants (Sjobua has offered a multi-course New Year dinner; Arkivet Bar has hosted a takeover in previous years).
  • Hotel galas and live music at properties such as Quality Hotel Waterfront, Scandic Parken and Quality Hotel Alesund; 2026/2027 packages are usually released in late autumn.
  • December concerts at Parken Kulturhus and Lovenvold Theater during the inter-holiday week; a dedicated midnight open-air concert in the city centre has not been formally announced.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

The public celebration on 31 December 2026 runs mainly from 20:00 to 01:00, the only window when consumer fireworks may be set off in Alesund municipality without a special permit. The large communal display is timed for 00:00 over Aspevagen; good sightlines include the quays, parts of the centre and higher ground on Aksla. Ban zones protecting dense historic timber housing apply all year, including New Year's Eve. Maps and rules are issued by Alesund kommune and Alesund brannvesen.

As of early September 2026 there is no published central outdoor stage programme for 2026/2027. Expect restaurant dinners, hotel bars, occasional venue parties (Terminalen has hosted New Year's Eve in previous seasons) and private gatherings. Parken Kulturhus at Parkgata 3B lists December concerts; the Alesund Symphony Orchestra New Year concert has in recent years taken place in mid-January, not at midnight. Hurtigruten ships often call at Alesund around the turn of the year; onboard and shore programmes vary by sailing. Weather, wind and funding can affect the fireworks – check Bypatrioten and municipal pages close to the date.

Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve & New Year Alesund

Watching the harbour display and the communal fireworks is free; there is no city-wide admission ticket. Costs apply to restaurants, hotels and concerts. Festive multi-course menus in Alesund have recently been around EUR 100–130 for four to six courses (earlier published examples about NOK 1,095–1,420). A five-course New Year dinner such as Sjobua's and hotel galas usually sit higher; a realistic 2026/2027 range for a celebratory dinner is about EUR 110–180 per person, depending on the venue and drinks package. Concert tickets at Parken Kulturhus recently converted to about EUR 17–45 (under-19/student vs standard). Full New Year 2026/2027 price lists were not yet widely published in early September 2026 – book directly with venues, via visitalesund.com, parkenkulturhus.no and hotel sites. Donations for Fellesfyrverkeri go through Alesund Saluttlag's Spleis campaign.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Alesund

  • Fly into Alesund Airport (AES) on Vigra and continue by airport bus; in town use FRAM buses (app/frammr.no). The harbour, Brosundet and Byparken are walkable from the centre.
  • Late December is wet, windy and dark early; temperatures often hover around freezing. Wear waterproof shoes, layered clothing, a hat and gloves, especially on the 418 steps to Aksla.
  • Book rooms early. Hotel Brosundet has published a seasonal closure over the holidays (historically around 18 December to 2 January). Alternatives include Quality Hotel Waterfront, Scandic Parken, Hotel 1904 and Quality Hotel Alesund. Many hotels set a minimum stay.
  • Fireworks only outside ban zones and only from 20:00 to 01:00; age limit 18. Use safety glasses, keep clear of timber facades, cars and crowds, and watch the wind.
  • For a midnight view with less quay crowding, use higher ground on Aksla (road or taxi to Fjellstua is often safer in winter than wet steps) or open sightlines on Aspevagen. Night buses are limited after midnight – stay within walking distance.
