On 1 January the city usually hosts the New Year Concert at the Grande Auditório Francisca Abreu in Centro Cultural Vila Flor, with waltzes and a more formal programme. - Getting there: Porto Airport is about 50 km away, then train, bus or car. The centre is compact and walkable. Expect road closures around Largo do Toural on the night; use public transport or out-of-centre parking. Free special buses ran in previous years; confirmation for 2026/2027 is still pending.
- Weather and clothing: Late December temperatures often sit between about 5 and 13 °C, with a real chance of rain. Wear warm, waterproof layers and comfortable shoes for standing on the square until midnight.
- Stay: Hotels and guesthouses in the old town and near Toural book out for New Year's Eve. Reserve early if you want to walk home after the fireworks.
