Kaunas marks New Year's Eve and New Year 2026/2027 in the Old Town around Town Hall Square. The official open-air celebration runs through the night of 31 December 2026 into 1 January 2027 and is usually free to attend. The full 2026/2027 stage line-up is typically released only in late autumn; recent years have featured live music, dance or fire shows and a midnight fireworks display in front of the historic Town Hall, known as the White Swan.

New Year's Eve in Kaunas often starts in the afternoon with concerts, carillon music in the garden of the Vytautas the Great War Museum and festive church services. In recent years the official square programme began around 23:00 with a DJ set and aerial or fire performances, followed by fireworks at midnight. Ticketed gala concerts and private venue parties run in parallel. After midnight, many guests stay in the Old Town or continue to clubs.

On 1 January 2027 the festive lights usually remain in place, and selected cafes stay open for a quieter first day of the year.
Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Kaunas
Admission to the municipal celebration on Town Hall Square has been free in recent editions. No ticket is required for the square, but expect crowds and temporary street closures. Indoor concerts, hotel packages and club nights are paid events; prices depend on the venue and are released with each listing. Buy only through official box offices and trusted platforms listed by Visit Kaunas or the city events portal.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Kaunas
- Kaunas Airport is close to the city; trains and coaches from Vilnius take about one hour. Extra night buses often run after midnight, while parts of the Old Town are closed to cars from late evening until the early hours.
- Late December in Kaunas is cold, frequently around or below freezing, with possible snow and icy pavements. Wear insulated boots, a warm coat, hat and gloves.
- Book hotels and apartments near Town Hall Square or Laisves Avenue well in advance. Ask whether a New Year dinner or party package is included.
- For fireworks with more space, consider the Aleksotas deck, the Neris riverbank and bridges, or higher ground in Zaliakalnis instead of standing at the front of the square.
