Welcome to the New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Catania

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027
The official artist lineup for New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Catania had not been announced as of summer 2026. In recent years the city programme has started around 20:30 in Piazza del Duomo, with local bands, pop and urban acts, a midnight countdown and a DJ set into the early hours. Piazza Università works as an overflow area with a giant screen. Access is usually capped; in 2025/2026 the published figures were about 8,000 people in Piazza del Duomo and about 7,000 in Piazza Università. Metro services ran until around 03:00.
Beyond the squares, the night continues with restaurant dinners, clubs around Piazza Teatro Massimo, Via Gemmellaro and Via Santa Filomena, and views from the waterfront, Ognina and Aci Castello. On 1 January the New Year concert at Teatro Massimo Bellini is a fixed cultural appointment; tickets are sold separately and often sell out. Official updates are typically released by the City of Catania in December.
Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Catania
Admission to the public celebration in Piazza del Duomo and Piazza Università is normally free; there are no tickets for the municipal open-air show. Expect security checks, bag limits and temporary rules on glass containers and alcohol in the event zone. Paid options include restaurant and hotel New Year dinners (in previous seasons roughly from about 20 euros for simple hotel or club offers to more than 100 euros for full dinner packages) and seats for the Teatro Massimo Bellini concert. Package deals and the confirmed stage bill appear closer to the date on comune.catania.it and on venue websites.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Catania
- Arrive via Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA), the FCE metro and a walk along Via Etnea; extra late-night metro runs are common after midnight.

- Book hotels and apartments in the centre and on the coast early; New Year's Eve is one of the busiest nights of the year in Catania.
- Travel light: large backpacks and professional camera gear have been restricted in the security perimeter in past editions.
- For a quieter view of fireworks and lights, head to the port, Ognina or the seafront towards Aci Castello.
