Welcome to the New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Como

New Year's Eve in Como brings the historic centre at the southern tip of Lake Como together with an open-air celebration on Piazza Cavour and the lakeside promenade. On the night of 31 December 2026 into 1 January 2027, the city is expected to follow its established pattern: midnight fireworks over the water, live music and a packed lakeside crowd that often continues toward Piazza Volta. The official municipal programme for 2026/2027 had not yet been published at the time of research; the City of Como usually releases times and traffic rules later in the year via its Natale a Como pages.

Highlights & Attractions at New Year's Eve in Como

  • Midnight fireworks over the first basin of Lake Como, traditionally launched from a floating barge beyond the Diga Foranea breakwater
  • Free open-air gathering on Piazza Cavour with views of the illuminated waterfront
  • Strong viewing lines along the Giardini a Lago, Viale Geno and the stretch from Villa Olmo to Villa Geno
  • After-midnight atmosphere toward Piazza Volta with music and street celebrations
  • Festive lights around the Cathedral, the Broletto and the seasonal Natale a Como decorations
  • Optional indoor gala at Teatro Sociale di Como: The Nutcracker is scheduled for 31 December 2026, followed by a limited-capacity New Year's Eve dinner on the theatre stage
  • Separate paid options such as lake cruises and hotel or restaurant dinners, independent of the free civic programme

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

The public celebration usually concentrates on the evening of 31 December around Piazza Cavour and the Lungolago. In recent editions, live music ran before midnight, a DJ set followed, and the fireworks began at 00:00 and lasted about 25 minutes. The display was visible from the square, the lake gardens and, in clear weather, from Brunate and Cernobbio. After midnight part of the crowd moved to Piazza Volta. Whether the 2026/2027 edition repeats the same concert-and-fireworks format will be confirmed only when the City publishes the official schedule.

Indoor alternatives include restaurant dinners, club nights in the province and the theatre gala. Teatro Sociale di Como lists The Nutcracker on 31 December 2026 at 17:30 (Balletto di Siena), with a limited Capodanno gala on stage afterwards. Tickets and menus are handled by the theatre. Cruises and private cene are not municipal events and must be booked directly with each operator.

Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Como

Admission to the public celebration on Piazza Cavour and the lakeside is free. There is no ticket for the civic fireworks. In previous years the city banned glass containers in public areas and temporarily closed the Lungolago and the Diga Foranea around midnight; similar rules are likely in 2026/2027 and should be checked shortly before the date.

Paid experiences are separate: club parties, restaurant dinners, hotel galas and boat cruises. Prices vary by venue and were not published as a single 2026/2027 list at the time of writing. In the previous season, some club entries were around 20 EUR, dinner shows cost more, and luxury galas at properties such as Villa d Este in Cernobbio reached four figures. Always confirm current rates with the venue or with Teatro Sociale di Como. Official city information: Comune di Como and Natale a Como.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Como

  • Getting there: trains to Como San Giovanni (about 40 minutes from Milano Centrale) or Como Lago; Piazza Cavour is a short walk from Como Lago station. If driving, park early, because the lakeside road is often closed late in the evening.
  • Weather and clothing: late December on the lake is cold, often near freezing, with wind, fog or rain possible. Wear layers, sturdy shoes and a waterproof jacket.
  • Stay: hotels and apartments on Piazza Cavour, along the Lungolago and in Cernobbio sell out for New Year's Eve. Book early even before the full city programme is online.
  • Best views: Piazza Cavour, Giardini a Lago and Viale Geno; if the square is crowded, consider Brunate (funicular) or the Villa Olmo waterfront, provided fireworks are again launched from the lake.
  • Safety: do not bring glass onto the square, keep exit routes in mind and allow extra time after midnight to reach the station or your car. Check Polizia Locale notices for road closures just before 31 December.
