Dinant does not usually stage a Brussels-style midnight fireworks show on 31 December. Public celebrations centre on winter lighting, the historic riverside streets and smaller cultural dates. Dinant Lumière typically runs for more than a month with a light trail, markets, processions, street performances, sports events and concerts. In 2025/2026 the lights ran from 27 November 2025 to 3 January 2026, and the closing fireworks were fired at 22:30 on 3 January, visible from the Meuse banks. On New Year’s Eve itself, restaurant réveillons, hotel bars and local pubs carry the night. By day and on the evenings around it, walk the lit old town, visit the Citadel (winter hours often until 16:30) and look out for the New Year concert in the Collegiate Church if it is repeated. The Dinant Lumière light trail and most street animations are free to attend. Individual indoor or staged shows have been ticketed in recent seasons: the “Hypnotica” fire performance cost 15 euros (free for accompanied children) and the Collegiate Church concert cost 10 euros in advance and 12 euros at the door. Citadel admission is currently around 15 euros for adults. Festive New Year dinners are booked directly with restaurants and are not part of a single official ticket bundle. • Take the train to Dinant station (SNCB): about 1.5 hours from Brussels and around one hour from Namur. The compact old town is easiest on foot.
• Late December in the Meuse valley is cold, often near freezing, with wind along the quays. Wear sturdy shoes, warm layers and a windproof coat.
• Hotel and apartment stock is limited. Reserve early for the nights of 30 December through 1 January.
• Old-town parking is scarce; use edge-of-centre car parks and walk to the riverfront and lit squares.
• Private fireworks may be restricted by provincial rules. Rely on official displays if they are confirmed, and respect barriers along the water.
