Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027
New Year in Limerick is a city-wide mix rather than one ticketed festival. From late afternoon on 31 December 2026 the quays fill with people. In some past years the council staged a family-friendly early-evening fireworks show over the Shannon in front of King John's Castle; whether that returns for 2026 must be confirmed with Limerick City and County Council. At the same time, Dolan's Warehouse (3-4 Dock Road, V94 VH4X) typically hosts New Year's Eve concerts, and hotels serve countdown dinners with live music.
1 January 2027 is a public holiday. A regular fixture is the Limerick Classic Clubs Sober New Year's Day Rave from 16:00 at Wickham Way, 11 Wickham Street, V94 WR8N, with DJs from Doc's, Boogie Wonderland and Strictly Rhythm, backed by the city's Night Time Economy programme. Morning parkruns, pantos at University Concert Hall, Lime Tree Theatre and Millennium Theatre, and leftover festive lighting complete the first day of the year.

Public quays, bridges and streets are free. Concert tickets at Dolan's and similar venues usually sit in the low-to-mid two-figure euro range. The Sober Rave is sold via Eventbrite; the 2027 price was not final in September 2026. The Limerick Strand Hotel currently advertises a New Year's Eve four-course dinner with live music and Prosecco at about EUR 67 per person, and overnight packages with dinner from about EUR 221 per person sharing. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Limerick
- Arrive via Limerick Colbert train and bus station; Arthur's Quay and King John's Castle are a 10–20 minute walk. City-centre parking is tight on New Year's Eve.
- Late December on the Shannon is cold, often wet and windy. Wear waterproof layers, sturdy shoes and bring a small light for unlit stretches of quay.
- Book the Strand, Savoy, Radisson Blu or central guesthouses early; New Year's Eve and New Year's Day sell out.
- Consumer fireworks are tightly controlled in Ireland. Do not set off private rockets on the quays; follow any official city guidance.
- Check Bus Éireann and taxi apps before midnight. If you want the Sober Rave or a panto on 1 January, buy tickets in advance.
