Welcome to the New Year's Eve & New Year Celebrations 2026/2027 in Luxembourg City
New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Luxembourg City is a citywide celebration rather than a single stadium-style show. The official Winterlights festival of the City of Luxembourg runs from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, so festive lighting and winter markets still shape 31 December 2026 and the first days of 2027. 31 December 2026 is a Thursday; 1 January 2027 is a public holiday.
Luxembourg City does not stage an official New Year's Eve fireworks display, and private fireworks are regularly banned in the capital. People celebrate on the squares of the historic centre, in the Grund and along the Rives de Clausen, and in restaurants, theatres and clubs. Detailed line-ups for individual parties are usually released in late autumn.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027
Most visitors start between 18:00 and 19:00 with a circuit of the Winterlights sites. Place d'Armes is the natural meeting point in the old town; Place de la Constitution adds the skyline view over the Petrusse valley; Place Guillaume II and Kinnekswiss are more family-oriented. Market stalls and shops often close earlier on 31 December, after which bars and clubs take over. There is no municipal midnight fireworks show. Countdowns happen on squares, terraces and bridges rather than in front of an official pyro display.
After midnight the focus shifts to the Grund, Clausen and Hollerich. Club events frequently run until 05:00 or 06:00. 1 January stays calm: cafes and museums open later depending on the venue, while Winterlights continue through 3 January 2027. Specific DJ bills, outdoor stages and extended hours for 2026/2027 had not been fully published at the time of research. Recheck luxembourg-city.com and vdl.lu in November and December.
Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve & New Year Celebrations Luxembourg City
Walking the Winterlights and the historic centre is free. Paid options vary: club entry in recent years was often around 20 to 35 EUR. The Theatres de la Ville list adult Category 1 tickets for Candide on 31 December 2026 at 65 EUR. Restaurant New Year's Eve menus commonly sit in the mid-to-high two-digit or three-digit euro range; 150 EUR is a realistic ceiling for many dinner and gala packages, while luxury addresses can charge more.
There is no single city ticket. Book tables, club nights and theatre seats early. Listings and links are published on luxembourg-city.com/en/whats-on, on vdl.lu and on venue sites. Full 2026/2027 club prices and line-ups were not complete at the time of writing.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Luxembourg City
- Nationwide public transport in Luxembourg is free. Bus, tram and CFL trains are the easiest way in; old-town parking is scarce on New Year's Eve.
- Late December is cold, often near freezing, with wind on the plateau. Wear warm shoes, layers and a waterproof outer layer.
- Hotel inventory in Ville Haute, near the station and in Kirchberg is limited. Reserve early for 31 December 2026 and 1 January 2027.
- Private fireworks are generally banned in Luxembourg City and fines are possible. Do not plan your night around an official midnight display.
- Arrange your return before midnight if you can: taxis are in high demand, and an earlier tram or bus is more reliable than waiting after the countdown.
