Welcome to the New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Ohrid

Ohrid, the UNESCO World Heritage lake town in North Macedonia, marks the 2026/2027 New Year with a public celebration on St. Clement of Ohrid Square, right by the harbour on Lake Ohrid. The main open-air programme traditionally starts at 20:00 on 31 December; the square and lakeside promenade remain free to enter. The detailed 2026/2027 artist lineup is usually released by the Municipality of Ohrid in December. The municipal festive calendar already lists New Year's Eve on 31 December 2026.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

The municipal New Year celebration centres on St. Clement of Ohrid Square. In recent years the headline show started at 20:00 with DJ sets and Macedonian pop and folk acts, and 1 January often brought a second evening concert at the same square. As of August 2026 the confirmed artist list for 2026/2027 had not yet been published. Expect live music, a dense crowd on the square and busy cafes around the harbour. Daytime is best for St. Sophia, Plaoshnik, Samuel's Fortress and the path to Kaneo; many monuments keep shorter winter hours.

Hotels and clubs also host ticketed gala evenings with set menus and live music. Regional tour operators often add an optional Lake Ohrid cruise and a trip to the Monastery of St. Naum. Outdoor parts of the programme can change with the weather. Check ohrid.gov.mk and official.ohrid.gov.mk for the final schedule.

Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Ohrid

The official square celebration is public and free; there is no ticket for the main open-air stage. Indoor New Year dinners in recent seasons typically cost about 35 to 65 euros per person; cafe entry with snacks has been around 30 to 35 euros. Church tickets are often about 3 euros and Samuel's Fortress about 1 euro. Exact 2026/2027 dinner prices appear with December offers. Book tables directly with hotels and restaurants. There is no central ticket shop for the square event.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Ohrid

  • Skopje Airport (SKP) is the main year-round gateway, followed by a bus or car ride of about three to four hours. Ohrid Airport (OHD) has limited winter flights. From the intercity bus station it is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the main square.
  • Late December and early January days in Ohrid are usually around 6 to 8 °C, with nights near or below freezing. Bring a winter coat, waterproof shoes for wet cobblestones, a hat and gloves.
  • Lakeside and Old Town rooms sell out in the New Year week; in previous seasons many properties were already full by December. Book early and budget for the local tourist tax.
  • Carry cash in denars. Smaller cafes and souvenir shops do not always take cards. The denar is de facto pegged to the euro at roughly 61 denars per euro.
  • Visit Kaneo and the fortress in daylight. After midnight the focus stays on the square, the harbour and the lit promenade. On 31 December check local notices for street closures around the square.
