Welcome to the New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Randers

New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Randers, Denmark, falls on Thursday 31 December 2026 and continues into New Year's Day, a public holiday, on 1 January 2027. Celebrations centre on the old town around Rådhustorvet (Town Hall Square), the pedestrian streets and the Værket cultural venue at Sven Dalsgaards Plads 1. As of early September 2026, Randers had not published a single official municipal fireworks show for that night. The local tradition is a spread-out celebration: private fireworks, restaurant dinners and concerts rather than one ticketed festival.

Highlights & Attractions at New Year's Eve in Randers

  • Midnight gathering on Rådhustorvet in front of the 1778 town hall and the Niels Ebbesen statue
  • Private fireworks over the city centre, the Gudenå river and the harbour – legal from 31 December through 1 January
  • Christmas and winter lights in the midtby that often stay up into the first days of January
  • Randers Chamber Orchestra New Year concert on 9 and 10 January 2027 at 16:00 in Værket Concert Hall
  • The long-running Randers Big Band New Year concert in Værket’s Ridehuset (the 1 January 2027 date was not listed yet in early September 2026)
  • New Year menus in city-centre restaurants and bars, plus street countdown atmosphere
  • Walks along the Gudenå and views towards Randers Fjord when fireworks light the sky

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

31 December 2026 usually starts quietly: a walk through the lit city centre, then dinner at home or in a restaurant. From about 23:00, Rådhustorvet fills up. At midnight people wish each other “Godt nytår”, and private fireworks take over the streets. In Denmark, private fireworks may be set off only from 31 December to 1 January. Sales typically open from mid-December at local tents and shops, including Royal Fireworks Randers at Brotoften 1, 8940 Randers.

1 January 2027 is a public holiday. Many shops stay closed; cafés and some cultural venues reopen in the afternoon. Confirmed after New Year is the Viennese-style concert by Randers Chamber Orchestra (Danish Sinfonietta) with soprano Signe Sneh Durholm, tenor Anders Kampmann and conductor David Riddell on 9 and 10 January 2027 at 16:00 in Værket Concert Hall. A free Big Band concert filled the Ridehuset on 1 January 2026; whether that tradition returns on 1 January 2027 had not been announced by early September 2026. Check vaerket.dk and randers.dk close to the date for last-minute programme updates.

Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Randers

Streets and squares, including Rådhustorvet, are free to enter. Tickets for the Randers Chamber Orchestra New Year concert cost 295 Danish kroner in advance, about 40 euros at the September 2026 rate of roughly 7.48 DKK per euro, sold via Værket. Restaurant New Year menus typically range from about 70 to 130 euros per person and sell out early. The 2026 Big Band concert in the Ridehuset was free, first come, first served. There is no city-wide festival pass.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Randers

  • Trains on the Aarhus–Aalborg line reach Randers in about 40 minutes from Aarhus H; the station is a short walk from the centre. By car, use the E45; inner-city parking is limited on New Year's Eve.
  • Expect temperatures around freezing, wind and possible rain. Wear layers, sturdy shoes and hearing protection if you stand close to fireworks.
  • Hotel and apartment stock in Randers C is modest. Book early, especially if you also want seats for the 9–10 January 2027 concerts.
  • Set off fireworks only on safe open ground and keep distance from crowds, emergency staff and buildings. Bringing fireworks into Denmark from abroad is not allowed.
  • Re-check Værket, Randers Municipality and VisitAarhus in late December 2026, as concert listings and opening hours can still be updated.
