Welcome to the New Year's Eve celebrations 2026/2027 in Rouen

On the night of 31 December 2026 to 1 January 2027, Rouen marks the turn of the year in its lit historic centre, between Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Gros-Horloge and the Seine quays. The city does not usually stage a single official midnight fireworks show for New Year; detailed club, hotel and concert line-ups for 2026/2027 are typically released only in autumn and December. Public squares and the riverfront remain freely accessible, while restaurants, hotels and clubs sell their own ticketed revels.

Highlights & Attractions at New Year's Eve in Rouen

  • Midnight on the cathedral forecourt with the bells of Notre-Dame and festive lighting
  • A night walk through the illuminated old town around the Gros-Horloge, Place du Vieux-Marche and Place de la Pucelle
  • Views along the Seine quays and bridges, with city lights reflected on the water

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

31 December in Rouen usually starts with a festive dinner in a brasserie, hotel or on a Seine cruise. Around midnight many visitors gather on the cathedral square and the quays. Consumer fireworks in public streets are often banned across Seine-Maritime by prefectural order over the holiday period, so an official municipal midnight display should not be assumed. Clubs and bars in the centre and on the left bank run DJ nights and after-parties until about 04:00 or 05:00. Exact 2026/2027 line-ups were not fully published at the time of research.

On 1 January 2027 the Abbey Church of Saint-Ouen at 25 Place du General de Gaulle is again scheduled to host the New Year organ concert at 17:00, with titular organist Jean-Baptiste Monnot at the great Cavaillé-Coll instrument. The church is unheated. The Rouen Givree Christmas market on the cathedral square is listed to close in late December 2026 and is normally already taken down by New Year's Eve; winter lighting in the old town still shapes the atmosphere.

Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Rouen

Squares, quays and the historic centre are free to enter. Paid options in the previous season typically ranged, in euro, from about 15 to 75 for club and bar nights, about 9 to 12 for the Saint-Ouen New Year concert (with lower concession rates), and much higher for dinner cruises and hotel galas, with central hotel packages last seen around 289 to 299 per person. 2026/2027 prices may change and are confirmed by organisers only when autumn and December bookings open. Reserve early for restaurants, cruises and hotels. Check visiterouen.com and rouen.fr for updates.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Rouen

  • Arrive by train at Gare de Rouen Rive Droite, then walk or take metro or TEOR into the centre. On New Year's night metro and TEOR usually run from 21:00 to 06:00 on an extended timetable.
  • Late December and early January in Normandy are cold, often wet and windy by the Seine. Wear layers, sturdy shoes and a waterproof coat; bring extra warmth for the unheated abbey church.
  • Book hotels near Place de la Cathedrale, Place du Vieux-Marche and the quays well ahead, especially if a hotel revel dinner is part of the plan.
  • Street drinking and private fireworks may be restricted or banned by prefectural order; check the latest arretes shortly before 31 December.
  • Do not drive after drinking: use night public transport or the free volunteer service Les Dragons vous ramenent. Rouen's low-emission zone (ZFE) applies around the clock.
