Welcome to the New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Venice

New Year's Eve and New Year 2026/2027 turn Venice into one of Italy's most atmospheric celebrations. On the night of 31 December 2026 into 1 January 2027, residents and visitors welcome the year with a roughly 20-minute fireworks display over the Bacino di San Marco, festive lighting along the waterfront and concerts at Teatro La Fenice. Public events in the historic centre and on the mainland in Mestre are organised by the City of Venice together with Vela.

Highlights & Attractions at New Year's Eve in Venice

  • Midnight fireworks over St Mark's Basin with reflections on the lagoon

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

The public climax is the midnight fireworks over St Mark's Basin, launched in front of the Arsenale. Official guidance points visitors to the waterfront towards the Arsenale; the display is generally not visible from Piazza San Marco or the Piazzetta, and the square may be closed or tightly controlled for safety. Arrive early along the riva: in recent years more than 40,000 people have watched from the banks, terraces and boats. Extra ACTV vaporetto runs help people move in and out after midnight.

Culture centres on the Concerti di Capodanno: Gianandrea Noseda conducts the La Fenice Orchestra and Choir at 20:00 on 29 December 2026, 17:00 on 30 December, 16:00 on 31 December and 11:15 on 1 January 2027. The programme traditionally mixes orchestral works with opera arias and choruses, including Verdi's Va pensiero and Libiam ne lieti calici; the New Year's Day concert is usually broadcast on Italian television. Theatre nights, palace dinners, lagoon cruises and chamber concerts such as I Musici Veneziani complete the offer. The detailed open-air line-up for Mestre 2026/2027 is published closer to the date on Venezia Unica channels.

Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Venice

The public fireworks and access to the designated waterfront viewing areas are free. Concerts, theatre, gala dinners and boat parties are ticketed. Official La Fenice New Year concert prices range from about 25 to 550 euros and go on sale at teatrolafenice.it and at box offices in Venice and Mestre; the 1 January 2027 performance often limits buyers to four seats. Boat dinners with a fireworks view typically start around 345 to 445 euros per person, while palace and party evenings often fall between 100 and 350 euros. Overnight guests pay the municipal tourist tax at their hotel. Venice's experimental day-visitor access fee applied only on selected spring and summer dates in 2026 and not on New Year's Eve; any 2027 fee will be decided later by the city. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Venice

  • Arrive via Venezia Santa Lucia, Piazzale Roma or Marco Polo Airport, then continue by vaporetto or water taxi; use extra New Year's Eve services and check last connections.
  • Late December is cold, damp and often foggy, typically around 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. Pack warm waterproof layers, non-slip shoes and a small torch for dark alleys; acqua alta can affect waterfront paths.
  • Hotels and apartments in Castello, San Marco and Cannaregio sell out early. Book well ahead and stay within a short walk of the riva or a vaporetto stop.
  • Claim a viewing spot early, avoid glass bottles and oversized bags, and follow local security rules; private fireworks are generally banned.
  • To skip the densest crowds, watch from a booked boat, from Punta della Dogana or from Mestre, and pair the night with the earlier Fenice concert on 31 December.
