Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027

Nuits de Fourvière 2027 is expected to keep the established rhythm: two summer months, almost nightly performances, start times usually between 20:00 and 21:30, curtain around 23:00 to 23:30. The 2026 season staged more than 110 shows – about 40 concerts, 29 circus, 20 theatre/cabaret and 18 dance – including creations and French premieres. The 2027 lineup and exact calendar had not been published yet. A night on the hill is a sequence: funicular up, cushion on stone, dusk over the Saône, the show under an open sky, then the toss. There is no campsite and no all-day arena village – each performance is a separate ticket. By day the antique theatres remain an archaeological park (Lugdunum). Light rain rarely cancels; severe weather is called by the festival at short notice.

The Grand Théâtre is the centre of Nuits de Fourvière 2027: 108 metres across, built into the slope, the oldest theatre in Roman Gaul. This is where the big concerts and the most spectacular circus and dance nights land. Capacity swings with the stage design from just under 2,600 to about 4,500. Next door, the Odeon (about 900 to 1,200 seats) was built for music and rhetoric; today it hosts theatre, performance, chamber work and circus that needs proximity. The two antique houses do not run the same event at once, but they can host different shows on the same night. Two tickets and a steep hillside walk stand between a double bill – plan doors and timing honestly.

Hors-les-murs: Les SUBS, Lacroix-Laval and Greater Lyon

The Nuits leave the hill. In 2026 eleven metropolitan venues were in play, including Les SUBS for contemporary creation and Domaine de Lacroix-Laval for circus under the trees – Circus Ronaldo spent two weeks there. Off-site tickets are often cheaper and slower to sell out than Grand Théâtre headliners. Access and door times differ from Fourvière; the official venue card is the source of truth.

Les Petites Nuits, Samedis des Nuits and Bals in Lyon

Les Petites Nuits is the family strand: shorter pieces, often in the afternoon, a first festival night for children. Samedis des Nuits stretch Saturday into a long bill (2026 included a Cuban night and a closing Nuit du Raï). Bals des Nuits – Philippe Decouflé’s Extra Bal in 2026 – turn Roman stone into a dance floor. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Lyon

• Getting there: Metro D to Vieux-Lyon – Cathédrale Saint-Jean, then the Saint-Just funicular (F1) to Minimes – Théâtres Romains; exit right and walk up rue de l’Antiquaille. TCL often extends metro hours after shows. Driving is the worst option: scarce parking, steep lanes. Bike racks appear on performance nights. Walking up from Vieux Lyon is a workout – allow extra time.
• Weather and clothing: stone holds neither heat nor dryness. Sturdy shoes, a light jacket for the late slot, a poncho rather than an umbrella if rain is called (sightlines). The festival cushion is seat and souvenir; extra pads only if house rules allow. Pack insect repellent for still July nights.
• Where to stay: Vieux Lyon, Saint-Jean and the Presqu’île combine walking with the funicular; Fourvière itself has few rooms. June–July is high season – book early, especially around 14 July and Samedis des Nuits Saturdays. Croix-Rousse or Guillotière work if you stay on the metro.
