Welcome to New Year’s Eve 2026/2027 at Oberkasseler Bridge in Düsseldorf
Oberkasseler Bridge is one of Düsseldorf’s classic open-air spots for ringing in the new year on the Rhine. On 31 December 2026 and into 1 January 2027, people gather here for views across both riverbanks, the Altstadt skyline and the private fireworks that light up the night. Access to the bridge is public and free. This is not a ticketed festival with a fixed stage programme, but a traditional viewing point and meeting place.
Highlights & Attractions at Oberkasseler Bridge in Düsseldorf
- Panoramic views over the Rhine toward the Old Town, Tonhalle, Kunstakademie and the left bank toward Oberkassel.
- Popular New Year’s fireworks viewpoint: both shores and the night sky over the city are clearly visible from the deck.
- Part of Düsseldorf’s famous “bridge family”: a distinctive cable-stayed bridge with a central pylon, roughly 615 metres long.
- Free public access – no admission fee, no mandatory registration.
- Easy links to the Rhine promenade, Burgplatz, the Kasematten and the Oberkassel river meadows as alternative spots.
- Trams and public transport cross the bridge; car traffic may be restricted or closed during major crowds.
- Classic NYE atmosphere: sparkling wine at midnight, winter air, lights on the water and rockets over the skyline.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027
There is no fixed official concert or stage programme on Oberkasseler Bridge itself. The evening follows the usual New Year’s pattern: crowds build through the evening, private fireworks peak around midnight, then people slowly disperse. In the Altstadt, a ban on carrying and setting off category F2 fireworks has applied for years (typically from about 20:00 on 31 December until 06:00 on 1 January). The exact order for 2026/2027 is usually published by the city in late autumn – check duesseldorf.de closer to the date. Outside the ban zone and along the Rhine, private fireworks are common; there is no single municipal grand fireworks show launched only from the bridge.
Best time to arrive: from about 20:00 to secure a spot, with the highlight at 00:00. Expect dense crowds on the roadway and sidewalks – keep railings and traffic lanes clear and follow instructions from police and stewards.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Düsseldorf
- Getting there: Prefer metro/tram or walking. Stops near the bridge (toward Tonhalle / Oberkassel). By car, expect closures, congestion and parking bans on the bridge – in previous years illegally parked cars were actively enforced.
- Weather and clothing: Late December is cold, windy and often wet. Dress in warm layers, sturdy shoes, gloves and a hat. The bridge is fully exposed.
- Where to stay: Hotels in the Old Town, Medienhafen and Oberkassel sell out early for New Year’s. Book ahead and stay near public transport.
- Safety: Keep railings and lanes clear, do not set off fireworks in dense crowds, respect Altstadt ban zones. Police and fire services are heavily present on the night.
- Nearby alternatives: Burgplatz steps, Kasematten, Joseph-Beuys-Ufer, Oberkassel meadows and Rheinkniebrücke – switch location depending on crowds and wind.
