Welcome to the Oberlindenhock in Freiburg
Since the 1970s, Freiburg's upper old town around the Schwabentor gate, the Oberlinden fountain and Herrenstraße has transformed once a year into a lively street party: the Oberlindenhock. This traditional street festival is one of the city's most popular summer events, offering four days of live music, regional Baden specialties and a warm, sociable atmosphere in the heart of Freiburg's historic old town.
Note: The official 2027 date has not yet been confirmed by the organizers. Since the festival traditionally takes place on the last weekend of June, the expected dates of 24 to 27 June 2027 are shown here; we will update this page once the exact date is announced.

Program
The festival traditionally opens on Thursday evening with the relaxed "After Work Hock", where visitors ease into the long weekend with food and drinks. The official start follows on Friday evening with the traditional keg tapping ceremony at the Oberlinden fountain, after which live music takes over on the two stages in Oberlinden and Herrenstraße. On Saturday and Sunday, rotating bands provide a program ranging from rock'n'roll, soul and blues to boogie and swing, while numerous stands around the Schwabentor serve Baden specialties, street food, beer and regional wines.
Tickets
Admission to the Oberlindenhock is free; visitors only pay directly at the food and drink stands. No registration or advance ticket purchase is required.
Visitor Tips
- Traveling by tram is recommended, though the section between Bertoldsbrunnen and Schwabentor is closed for safety reasons in the evenings.
- Expect large crowds over the weekend; for a more relaxed experience, come for the "After Work Hock" on Thursday.
- Bring cash for the stands, though many vendors now also accept card payments.
- Comfortable shoes are recommended, as the festival spreads across several streets of the old town.
