Welcome to the Open Ohr Festival 2027 in Mainz
The Open Ohr Festival takes place from 14 to 17 May 2027 over Pentecost at the historic Citadel in Mainz. Since 1975 it has been one of Germany’s oldest non-commercial youth culture festivals, combining music, theatre, cabaret, workshops and political discussions under a new socio-political theme each year. Organised by a volunteer project group and the City of Mainz Youth and Family Office, it attracts around 10,000 visitors annually.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027
The Open Ohr Festival runs over four days from Friday to Whit Monday. The programme includes concerts, plays, cabaret, films, workshops and panel discussions, all centred on the annually chosen socio-political theme. The main stage at the Drususstein and other venues across the Citadel grounds offer a varied programme for all generations. Exact line-up and theme paper will be published in advance on the official website.
Tickets & Admission for Open Ohr Festival Mainz
Four-day festival tickets are expected to cost around 57 euros in advance (reduced approx. 36 euros), slightly more at the door. Festival tickets with camping pitch are about 99 euros. Day tickets are only available on site (Friday–Sunday approx. 36 euros, Monday approx. 18 euros). Children up to 12 years enter free. Tickets are available via the official website and ticket shop. The wristband serves as a public transport ticket in the network area.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Mainz
- Travel by public transport to Mainz Römisches Theater station is recommended – the festival wristband is valid as a ticket in the RNN and RMV area
- Wear comfortable shoes and weatherproof clothing as the grounds are uneven and partly steep
- Book camping pitches on or near the Citadel early; reserve alternative accommodation in Mainz in good time
- The festival is not fully accessible, but main areas and tents are wheelchair-friendly
