Welcome to New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Oslo
On December 31st, locals and visitors gather around Rådhusplassen and the Oslo Opera House on the fjord to welcome 2027. Rather than one large municipal fireworks show, Oslo relies on a winter atmosphere of lights, live music and numerous smaller fireworks set off by residents and restaurants across the city. The official 2026/2027 programme has not yet been published by the city of Oslo.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect on New Year's Eve in Oslo
Oslo has not organised a large centralised municipal fireworks display since 2022; instead, many residents and businesses set off their own smaller fireworks around midnight. Exact times for an official 2026/2027 programme are not yet available. Based on previous years, Rådhusplassen fills up from the early evening, and around midnight many visitors head to the Opera House roof, Aker Brygge or Ekebergparken to watch the scattered fireworks over the city and the fjord.
Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve in Oslo
The public celebrations at Rådhusplassen and along the fjord viewpoints are free to attend. Restaurants, hotels and private New Year's Eve parties set their own prices, which should be confirmed directly with each venue.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Oslo
- Pack warm, winter ready clothing along with non slip shoes or ice grips, since the streets can be icy in December
- Book a session in one of the floating saunas near the Opera House or at Aker Brygge (such as KOK Oslo Sauna or GreenBoats) in advance, to pair the turn of the year with a warm sauna session and a plunge into the cool fjord
- Reserve accommodation near Rådhusplassen or Aker Brygge early, since the city center is in high demand around New Year's Eve
- Rely on public transport, as the city center can be busy and partly restricted in the evening
- Those who want to enjoy the fireworks from a distance can add a trip to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump for fjord views or one of Oslo's winter parks with skiing options to their plans
