The Kukeri Festival Surva in Pernik, Bulgaria, is Southeast Europe's biggest masquerade celebration. Every January, over 6,000 costumed performers from around the world fill the city with ancient ritual, thunderous bells and spectacular handmade masks. Free entry for all.
