Welcome to the Poldi-Bock Tapping 2026 at Altenburg Castle
In a very special setting high above the roofs of Bamberg, the traditional Greifenklau brewery presents its popular "Poldi-Bock". On October 1, 2026, the festive bock beer tapping will take place at the historic Altenburg castle. The beer is a tribute to the last castle bear named "Poldi", who lived at the Altenburg until 1982, and revives an original recipe from the former Bamberger Bärenbräu brewery after more than 100 years.
Highlights: What to Expect at Altenburg Castle
- Serving of the original Poldi-Bock, brewed according to a historic recipe of the former Bärenbräu
- A unique atmosphere in the courtyard of the medieval Altenburg castle
- Charity aspect: A portion of the proceeds traditionally goes to the Altenburg Association to help preserve the landmark
- Franconian specialties and hearty snacks to accompany the strong bock beer

Visitor Tips: Getting to Altenburg Castle
- Altenburg castle (Altenburg 1, 96049 Bamberg) sits on the highest hill in Bamberg.
- Walking up from the city center (e.g., from the brewery at Laurenziplatz) is a popular tradition, though the path is quite steep.
- Since parking at the castle is very limited, using public transport, taxis, or walking is highly recommended.
- It can get chilly on top of the hill on an October evening, so bringing a warm jacket is advised.
