Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027
The public New Year programme run by Camara Municipal de Ponta Delgada is usually staged in the historic centre, with the Portas da Cidade / Praca Goncalo Velho Cabral as the main meeting point. In recent editions, stage entertainment started in the late evening (often around 21:15 to 22:30), fireworks launched at midnight, and live acts plus DJs continued until about 02:00. Headliners and exact times for 2026/2027 are still to be announced; check cm-pontadelgada.pt and visitpontadelgada.pt shortly before you travel.
Hotels, restaurants, Portas do Mar and Coliseu Micaelense host separate dinners and balls. The Grande Baile de Reveillon at the Coliseu typically begins after midnight (doors opened at 01:00 on 1 January in the last edition). 1 January is a quieter public holiday, with hotel brunches and, weather permitting, the first ocean swim of the year.
Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Ponta Delgada
Admission to the public celebration at the Portas da Cidade has been free in recent years, with no reservation required. Prices and artists for 2026/2027 had not been released as of late August 2026. Coliseu tickets are usually sold via coliseumicaelense.pt and bol.pt. City hotel packages can cost more and sell out early.
