What Is the Pstereo Festival in Trondheim?
Pstereo is one of Central Norway's largest music festivals, held every year on the Marinen in Trondheim since 2007. The name comes from the album "Pstereo" by Norwegian band DumDum Boys. The lineup focuses mainly on indie and pop, alongside rock and elektronika, paired with a food program from well known Trondheim restaurants. The setting is considered one of the most beautiful of any Norwegian festival: the Nidelva river runs along one side, while the Nidaros Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace rise on the other.
When Does Pstereo Festival 2027 Take Place?
The exact date for 2027 has not been confirmed yet (as of August 2026). Pstereo traditionally takes place on a weekend near the end of August; the 2026 anniversary edition (the 20th) ran on 21 and 22 August. This page will be updated once the official 2027 date is announced.
Where Is Pstereo Held?
The festival takes place on the Marinen, a former defence facility right in the centre of Trondheim, framed by the Nidelva river on one side and the Nidaros Cathedral on the other. The entrance is at Ytre Kongsgård, toward Elgeseter bridge. The grounds are a protected green area within walking distance of most downtown hotels.
Program and Highlights
The 2026 anniversary edition featured acts including Marit Larsen, The Cardigans, Viagra Boys, Lykke Li, Brenn., Sørsia Gerilja, Nix & The Nothings and Vilde Bye on the Marinen stages. The 2027 lineup has not been announced yet; based on past years, the first artist announcements usually arrive in winter or early spring ahead of the festival. Alongside the music, riverside food stalls curated by Trondheim chefs are a core part of the experience.
Tickets and Prices
For the 2026 edition, a two day festival pass cost 2,399 NOK, the student/under 26 festival pass cost 1,699 NOK, and a one day pass cost 1,499 NOK; a PLUSS upgrade with its own area was available for an extra 599 NOK. Prices for 2027 have not been published yet but are expected to fall in a similar range. Tickets are sold through the official website and ticket partner Eventim; the festival grounds have an 18+ age limit, except for the free Saturday morning family concert.
Getting There and Visitor Tips
- Reach Trondheim by flying into Værnes airport, by train, long distance bus or ferry; from there, the Marinen is reachable by airport bus, taxi or public transport.
- From the city centre, the festival grounds are usually an easy walk.
- Tickets are exchanged for a festival wristband on site, so bring ID or a valid student card.
- The grounds are step free and include a wheelchair platform in front of the main stage.
- Pack warm, weatherproof clothing, since the concerts by the river take place outdoors.
