Event Details
Welcome to Release Athens
Release Athens is not a traditional multi day festival but a series of standalone concert dates spread across June and July each year at Plateia Nerou (Water Square) in Kallithea, right by the Athens seafront. The 2026 anniversary edition, marking ten years of the concert series, featured acts including Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Pet Shop Boys, Moby, Pantera, Megadeth, Limp Bizkit, Gorillaz, The Offspring, Helloween and beloved Greek group Imiskoumbria.
Highlights
- Tenth anniversary of the concert series in 2026
- International headliners on individual dates rather than one shared festival weekend
- Genre variety spanning rock, metal, pop, electronic and hip hop
- Sea views over the Saronic Gulf right from the venue
- Extra dates added for especially popular shows (an additional Imiskoumbria concert, for example)
- Partnerships with venues like the SNFCC for accompanying special programs
Program
Rather than a fixed festival weekend, Release Athens unfolds over several weeks, with each show carrying its own date and line up. The 2026 edition ranged from metal nights with Pantera, Megadeth and Sepultura, to pop shows from Pet Shop Boys and David Byrne, to electronic sets from Moby and Garbage, alongside Greek favorites such as Pavlos Pavlidis. Most shows start in the evening around 7:00 to 8:00 PM; exact doors and start times are announced separately for each concert.
Tickets
Tickets are sold through the official Release Athens website and through More.com, with each date going on sale individually. In 2026, the cheapest categories started around 30 euros, while VIP tickets, offering a raised area, drinks and a separate entrance, generally started around 125 euros and could go noticeably higher depending on the act. Loyalty discounts were occasionally offered to holders of tickets from earlier shows.
Visitor Tips
- Since each concert has its own on sale date, it is worth checking the official website regularly for updates each summer.
- Plateia Nerou sits right by the sea, so bring a light jacket for the evening.
- Traveling by tram to Kallithea or by taxi is recommended, as parking is limited.
- Book early for highly anticipated shows, since popular dates sell out quickly.
- The lineup for the coming summer is usually announced in spring; a full 2027 program was not yet available at the time of writing.
