Welcome to the Rendsburg Christmas Market 2026 in Rendsburg
De lütte Wiehnacht is Rendsburg’s classic town Christmas market in Schleswig-Holstein – compact, Nordic and rooted in the old town rather than staged as a mega-event. It is organised by Rendsburg Tourismus + Marketing GmbH and set mainly on Schiffbrückenplatz, with a second cluster on the refurbished Altstädter Markt. Exact opening dates for the 2026/27 season had not been officially confirmed as of September 2026. Last season ran from 24 November 2025 to 4 January 2026, typically Monday to Thursday from 11:00 to 21:00. Trade calendars list late November 2026 to early January 2027. Guided Advent walks on 28 November and 5, 12 and 19 December 2026 are already confirmed and finish with punch at the market, so De lütte Wiehnacht will be open through Advent.
Rendsburg sits on the Kiel Canal between Kiel and the North Sea/Baltic axis, about 30 minutes by regional train from Kiel. The walk from the station to Schiffbrückenplatz is around eight minutes. Admission to the market is free; you pay only for food and drink, the Stadtwerke SH ice rink and optional tours.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
De lütte Wiehnacht is a small-city market with a Low German name (“the little Christmas”) and a clear focus: lights, punch, conversation and a real ice rink. Until 2026 hours are posted, use last season as a guide: Monday–Thursday 11:00–21:00, Friday and Saturday 11:00–22:00 (some listings from 10:00), Sunday 12:00–20:00. Christmas Eve closed early (10:00–14:00). The market was shut on 25 and 26 December, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, with shorter 11:00–19:00 slots between Christmas and early January. 22 and 23 December ran until 23:00. Always recheck rendsburg-tourismus-marketing.de before you travel.
The programme is built around families and civic life rather than headline concerts. Santa traditionally visits Schiffbrückenplatz on Advent Sunday afternoons. St Nicholas Day brings a search game for children. Selected Advent Saturdays turn the ice rink into a dance floor with a live DJ (6 and 20 December in 2025; 2026 party dates not yet published). Moonlight shopping, lantern moments and the citizens’ huts round out the evenings. Food stays down-to-earth: local punch, mulled wine, stuffed bread, crêpes, Schmalzkuchen and hearty snacks from vendors such as Catering Möhls.
De lütte Wiehnacht on Schiffbrückenplatz in Rendsburg
Schiffbrückenplatz is the main 2026 site: wooden chalets, the ice rink, the children’s carousel and most of the food stalls. It sits between the old town and the canal, an easy walk from the station and from Altstädter Markt. The scale is deliberate – “lütt” means little – so you can see the whole market in two to three hours or linger for skating and punch. It works well as a stop on the Kiel–west-coast route.
Christmas stalls on Altstädter Markt in Rendsburg
Altstädter Markt is the historic heart of Rendsburg: Old Town Hall, St. Mary’s Church, Rendsburg Information at Altstädter Markt 17, and a 2024 square redesign with new lighting. Deutsche Bahn and local coverage list the Christmas market on both Schiffbrückenplatz and Altstädter Markt. Expect crafts, punch and a calmer stroll when the ice rink is busy. The 19 December 2026 walk with local characters Stutentrine and Markgraf starts here at 15:00 and ends with punch at De lütte Wiehnacht (10 EUR, book at Rendsburg Information).
Citizens’ huts at the Rendsburg Christmas Market
The Bürgerhütten are a local signature. Clubs, associations, artisans and cultural groups from the region book them by the day to present projects or sell handmade goods. Two huts operated in 2025; daily line-ups were published by Rendsburg Tourismus + Marketing. Repeat visits therefore feel different from a purely commercial stall grid. Check 2026 occupancy online or on site.
Stadtwerke SH ice rink – the headline draw in Rendsburg
A real-ice rink is what sets this small market apart. Last season it ran about 11:00–19:00 on weekdays, 11:00–22:00 on Saturdays and 12:00–19:00 on Sundays, with a short Christmas Eve session and closure on public holidays. Adults paid 5 EUR for two hours, children and teens up to 16 paid 4 EUR. Add skating lessons, ice-stock sport (book for groups) and DJ ice parties. Skate hire is on site. 2026 prices and party dates had not been released at the time of research.
Advent market at Posthof near Rendsburg
A short drive from the centre, Posthof (Nübbeler Weg 53, 24768 Rendsburg) turns its courtyard into a tiny Advent village for one December weekend: huts, a scout yurt, a campfire, sheep, punch, mulled wine and regional crafts. In 2025 it ran 6 December (13:00–19:00) and 7 December (11:00–17:00). 2026 dates were not yet confirmed; see posthof-rendsburg.de in the autumn if you want a quieter, rural contrast to Schiffbrückenplatz.
Kiel Christmas Markets – the big neighbour of Rendsburg
Rendsburg sits in a sweet spot between Kiel and the coast. Official Kiel dates for 2026 are 19 November to 23 December, with four core sites: Holstenplatz (the original since 1973), Asmus-Bremer-Platz and its 12.5-metre pyramid, the Nordic-style Town Hall Square village, and “Heavenly – the Holtenauer” at Bernhard-Minetti-Platz, plus a winter market at the boat harbour. Entry is free. Pair a daytime visit to Kiel with an evening at De lütte Wiehnacht, or the other way round. Details: kieler-weihnachtsmaerkte.de.
Eckernförde Christmas Market on the Baltic
About 25 kilometres north-east, Eckernförde’s market around St. Nicolai is maritime and family-scale. Trade listings put 2026 at 23 November to 23 December (with extra days after Christmas) – confirm on ostseebad-eckernfoerde.de. After-work parties, a St Nicholas star parade, puppet theatre and a Lucia procession make it a Baltic counterpart to canal-side Rendsburg. Easy as a half-day add-on by bus or car.
Schleswig and Flensburg Christmas Markets from Rendsburg
North along the rail line, Schleswig (trade calendar: 23 November to 29 December 2026, still awaiting a full official notice) offers old-town lanes near the Schlei and Schloss Gottorf. Flensburg has already published 2026 dates: 16 November to 30 December, under the motto “Hygge, Heart & Lights”, from Südermarkt along Holm and Große Straße to Nordermarkt. Hours: Monday–Saturday 11:00–22:00, Sunday 11:00–20:00, Christmas Eve until 14:00; closed on 22 November and 25–26 December. On a Kiel–Rendsburg–Schleswig–Flensburg Christmas-market hop, Rendsburg is the geographic midpoint.
Tickets & Admission for the Rendsburg Christmas Market Rendsburg
Entry to De lütte Wiehnacht is free; there are no day tickets for the market itself. You pay only for food, the ice rink and optional tours. 2025 price guide (2026 figures may shift slightly; many Rendsburg stalls held prices that year): mulled wine around 4 EUR, punch in the same range, sausage 3–4 EUR, crêpes about 3.50 EUR. Ice skating was 5 EUR for adults and 4 EUR for under-16s per two hours. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Rendsburg
- Getting there: Regional trains to Rendsburg on the Hamburg–Flensburg and Kiel–west-coast lines; about an eight-minute walk from the station to Schiffbrückenplatz. A Schleswig-Holstein day ticket or the Deutschland-Ticket is the cheap option from Kiel, Neumünster or Hamburg. By car use the A7 and B77/B203. Last season, parking at Parkhaus Nienstadtstraße, Parkdeck Rathaus and Schleuskuhle/Torstraße was free on Advent Saturdays – confirm signs for 2026.
- Weather and clothing: Advent here means wind and rain more often than postcard snow. Waterproof shoes, layers and gloves matter. The ice rink extends your stay, so pack spare socks for skate hire.
- Where to stay: Old-town rooms around Altstädter Markt and Paradeplatz are walkable but limited – book Advent weekends early. Sleep in Kiel and evening-trip to Rendsburg, or look for canal-side holiday flats. Rendsburg Information (Mon–Fri 10:00–17:00, Sat 10:00–14:00) can advise.
- While you are there: Combine the market with the pedestrian tunnel under the Kiel Canal, the railway high bridge and St. Mary’s Church. The Schiffbrückenplatz farmers’ market (Wednesday and Saturday mornings) is separate from the evening Christmas stalls.
- When to go: Weekday afternoons are quieter; Friday and Saturday nights bring skating, punch and moonlight shopping. Families should aim for Santa Sundays around 15:00 and afternoon ice sessions. Hours shrink between Christmas and New Year, and the market is closed on the public holidays.
