Welcome to New Year’s Parties 2026–2027 in Reykjavik
New Year’s Eve in Reykjavik is not one single festival but a city-wide celebration: neighbourhood bonfires, a nationwide private fireworks display, gala dinners and club and disco parties that run into the morning. The night of 31 December 2026 into 1 January 2027 follows the classic Icelandic rhythm — and several ticketed events are already confirmed, including the Perlan gala and the Wake Up Reykjavik party at the Iðnó culture house.
Highlights & Attractions at New Year in Reykjavik
- Public áramótabrennur (bonfires) at around ten locations across the city, traditionally from about 20:30 (exact list and weather go-ahead published by the city shortly beforehand).
- Household and neighbourhood fireworks: the sky over Reykjavik lights up from roughly 23:30 well past midnight — one of Europe’s most intense per-capita New Year displays.
- Perlan New Year’s Eve Gala: four-course dinner with wine pairing, live music and a midnight champagne toast with panoramic views (85,900 ISK / about 631 euro).
- Wake Up Reykjavik NYE Party at historic Iðnó (Vonarstræti 3, by the pond): starts 22:00 on 31 December 2026, DJ, welcome drink, drink voucher, Icelandic shot and champagne at midnight (19,500 ISK / about 143 euro).
- New Year fireworks cruises from the Old Harbour (including Elding and Amelia Rose): fireworks from the water, often with open bar or champagne, typically 22:30–00:30 (from about 165–189 euro).
- Downtown clubs and bars on Laugavegur, Austurstræti and around Ingólfstorg: packed after midnight, often with cover charges (about 15–33 euro), open until roughly 04:30–05:00.
- Áramótaskaupið: Iceland’s year-end satirical TV show on RÚV, traditionally from 22:30 — streets empty briefly, then everyone heads out for fireworks and the clubs.

Wake Up Reykjavik NYE Party at Iðnó: Ticketed event on 31 December 2026 from 22:00 (about four hours) in the culture house by the pond. Local hosts, DJ, drinks package and midnight champagne. Smart-casual; 18+ (non-alcoholic option under 20). Table and bottle service on request. Often sells out.
Fireworks cruises: Departure from the Old Harbour typically 22:30, return around 00:30. Warm decks, indoor lounge, champagne or open bar depending on operator. A strong alternative to crowded streets.
Clubs and bars after midnight: Many central venues run their own NYE programmes. In previous years these included HE.SHE.THEY x VOLUME (inclusive dance floors, tickets often from about 37 euro), DJ sets at Kaffibarinn, Lebowski, Den Danske Kro and techno nights at Radar. As of October 2026, most 2026/2027 DJ line-ups were not fully published — check tix.is, venue Instagram and Facebook closer to the date. Typical names: Paloma, Húrra, Bravó, Kaffibarinn, Radar, EXIT (Austurstræti 3, often Latin/reggaeton and masquerade themes), Utopia. Door policy often 20+; arrive before 22:00 or expect long queues after 01:00.
Free city highlights: Bonfires (exact sites and times announced by Reykjavik shortly before; may be cancelled if wind exceeds 10 m/s), fireworks from Hallgrímskirkja, Öskjuhlíð/Perlan hillside, the harbour and residential streets.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Reykjavik
- Getting around: The centre is compact and walkable. Strætó buses usually stop in the afternoon on 31 December; taxis are scarce after midnight — book before 23:00 or walk.
- What to wear: Full winter layers. Dress up for clubs underneath a warm coat; solid shoes for snow, ice and firework debris. On a boat, add hat, gloves and scarf.
- Where to stay: New Year is peak season — book hotels and apartments in the 101 district early. Many guests stay within walking distance of Laugavegur and the harbour.
- Local rhythm: Early dinner or gala, bonfire, optional Áramótaskaup, out for fireworks from about 23:30, then clubs. Many shops close at midday; set-menu restaurants sell out months ahead.
- Safety: Eye protection and gloves if you set off fireworks; no personal rockets at bonfire sites. Air quality can drop after midnight due to smoke. Alcohol: bar entry from 18, purchase and service from 20.
