From November 26 to December 28, 2026, the center of Rudolstadt turns into one of Thuringia's coziest Christmas markets. Surrounded by historic townhouses and with a constant view of Heidecksburg Castle, Schillers Weihnacht invites visitors to stroll, while a second, much smaller Advent market in the castle courtyard above the city adds a striking contrast for just one weekend.

High above the city, the courtyard of the baroque Heidecksburg Castle turns into an intimate, history steeped Advent market for a single weekend each year. Regional exhibitors offer handcrafted goods, homemade Christmas items and small gift ideas, complemented by themed guided tours such as Christmas at the Castle and flashlight tours through the museum. The market traditionally takes place on the second Advent weekend, which for 2026 is expected to fall on December 5 and 6, though the date has not yet been officially confirmed.

Schillers Weihnacht is open Sundays from 12pm to 8pm, and the market stays closed on Christmas Eve. New this year is a Feuerzangenbowle house with a cozy indoor area, and on December 31 a large New Year's Eve party runs on the marketplace from 7pm to 2am, coinciding with Rudolstadt's celebrations marking 1,250 years since its founding and 700 years of city rights.
