Welcome to the Saarbrücken Christkindl Market 2026 in Saarbrücken
The traditional Saarbrücken Christkindl Market takes place from 23 November to 30 December 2026 on the historic St. Johanner Markt and along Bahnhofstraße. Over a stretch of around 700 metres, more than 80 attractively designed stalls invite visitors to discover handicrafts, Christmas decorations and regional specialities. The unique two-storey Alpine hut, the large Christmas pyramid and the flying Santa Claus create a festive atmosphere in the heart of the state capital.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
The Christkindl Market is generally open daily from 11:00 to 21:00. It remains closed on Totensonntag. A special highlight is Late-Night Shopping, when the market and shops stay open longer. After the holidays, festive stalls in Bahnhofstraße continue from 27 to 30 December. The flying Santa Claus glides several times a day over St. Johanner Markt and tells the story of Rudolph the reindeer. On Wednesdays there are additional children’s activities and reduced-price rides.
Christmas Garden in the Franco-German Garden
From 27 to 29 November 2026 the Franco-German Garden (DFG) transforms into the popular Christmas Garden on the first Advent weekend. Around the Deutschmühlenweiher, visitors find numerous stalls with handicrafts, culinary specialities and a cultural supporting programme. Opening hours are Friday 13:00–22:00, Saturday 10:00–22:00 and Sunday 10:00–20:00. Admission is free. The City Utilities Christmas Forest and music from the water stage and music shell complete the experience.

Admission to the Saarbrücken Christkindl Market and the Christmas Garden in the Franco-German Garden is free of charge. Costs only arise for food, drinks, rides, the ice rink and optional activities. Current prices for mulled wine, punch and specialities are in the usual range of German Christmas markets. Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Saarbrücken
- Arrival by Saarbahn or bus is convenient; Park-and-Ride facilities along the Saarbahn line and multi-storey car parks in the city centre are available.
- Dress warmly and weatherproof – the city centre and the DFG can be windy. Sturdy shoes and layered clothing are recommended.
- Book accommodation in the centre or near the Franco-German Garden early, as the Advent season in the Eurometropolis is very popular.
- Combine the city market with a visit to the Christmas Garden on the first Advent weekend and enjoy the light atmosphere in the evening.
- On Wednesdays families benefit from reduced-price rides and additional Santa Claus shows.
