Welcome to the Salzwedel Christmas Market 2026 in Salzwedel
The Salzwedel Christmas Market takes place from 10 to 13 December 2026 on the market square at the Bürgercenter in the heart of the Hanseatic city. The market is largely organised by local associations, schools, kindergartens and organisations and offers an authentic, community-oriented Advent atmosphere. Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026
The main market on the market square at the Bürgercenter runs from 10 to 13 December 2026. As in previous years, typical opening hours from 11:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and until 22:00 on weekend days are expected. The official opening is traditionally performed by the mayor. A small children’s programme and Santa Claus provide entertainment. Local participants present handmade goods, crafts and culinary offerings.
Craft Market in the Town Hall
On 12 and 13 December 2026 the popular craft market takes place in the foyer of the town hall. Local associations and traders offer handmade products, crafts and gift ideas. The historic setting of the town hall creates a particularly atmospheric ambiance.
Advent at the Town Hall Tower
Already on 23 November 2026 the Advent season begins with the event “Advent at the Town Hall Tower” on the Rathausturmplatz. Here the pre-Christmas atmosphere is launched with lights, music and first Christmas offerings and forms the prelude to the further Advent events in the city.

Admission to the Salzwedel Christmas Market, the craft market in the town hall and Advent at the Town Hall Tower is free of charge. Costs only arise for food, drinks and optional activities. The market is organised by the Hanseatic City of Salzwedel in cooperation with local actors. Current information and applications for stall operators are available via the city administration.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Salzwedel
- Arrival by car via the B71, B190 or B248; free and paid parking is available near the market square and Bürgercenter.
- Dress warmly and weatherproof – the Altmark can be cold and windy in December. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
- Book accommodation in the historic old town or surroundings early, as Advent weekends are popular.
- Combine your visit with a stroll through the half-timbered old town and a visit to the town hall tower for an overview of the city.
