Welcome to the Sardiñadas de San Xoán 2027 in A Coruña
The Sardiñadas de San Xoán are not a separate music festival. They are the food tradition of the San Xoán night in A Coruña. On the evening of 23 June 2027, running into 24 June, neighbours, groups of friends and bars grill sardines outdoors across the city. 24 June 2027 is the local public holiday Festividade de San Xoán in A Coruña. The neighbourhood programme for 2027 has not been published yet.
Highlights & Attractions at Sardiñadas de San Xoán in A Coruña
- Sardines grilled over the coals, usually with bread, following the saying “Polo San Xoán, a sardiña molla o pan”
- Often churrasco, empanada and local wine alongside the sardines
- Open gatherings in streets and squares rather than one main stage
- Bonfires, called cacharelas or fogueiras, especially on the night of 23 June
- The large beach fires at Riazor and Orzán as the city’s main gathering point

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027
The peak is the night of 23–24 June 2027. In recent years the city council allowed sardiñadas and barbecues on public land in two windows, roughly 13:00–16:00 and 20:00–00:00, across several days around San Xoán. The night of 23 June has extra rules for residents and hospitality venues. The 2027 municipal notice is not out yet, so hours and permitted spots may change.
There is no central ticket line-up just for the sardine feasts. Associations, bars and neighbours in areas such as Os Mallos, Monte Alto, Las Flores and Rúa San Xoán set up their own grills each year. Which venues take part in 2027, and whether they add music, is announced closer to the date. The beach bonfires and the city’s cultural programme belong to the wider San Xoán festival, not to a standalone sardine event.
Tickets & Admission for Sardiñadas de San Xoán A Coruña
Joining the public sardiñadas is free. No admission tickets are sold. Sardines, bread, meat and drinks are paid at the grill, bar or neighbourhood stall. Each host sets its own prices, and 2027 prices are not published. Anyone grilling on their own usually needs to file a prior notice with the Área de Seguridade Cidadá. The city posts the form and rules on coruna.gal once the 2027 notice is in force.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in A Coruña
- Walk, or use bus and tram, to reach the neighbourhoods. On San Xoán night, parts of the seafront and beach access are often restricted.
- Late June evenings are often mild, but the coast can be windy. A light jacket is usually enough; the grills are outdoors.
- Book rooms in the centre and near Riazor and Orzán early. San Xoán night is one of the busiest of the year.
- Do not expect one official menu. Each neighbourhood decides whether it serves sardines, churrasco or both.
- Check fire, grill and hour rules on coruna.gal shortly before you go. The 2026 notice does not automatically apply in 2027.
