Welcome to the Schlachte-Zauber 2026 in Bremen

From 23 November to 23 December 2026, Schlachte-Zauber transforms Bremen’s Weser promenade (Schlachte) into a wintery, maritime and medieval-style Christmas market. Running since 2004, it fills the historic harbour front with blue light, open fires, the smell of wood and roast food, and around 100 decorated wooden huts. Admission is free. The market opens on 23 November with a fireworks display over the Weser at about 18:30.

Highlights & Attractions at Schlachte-Zauber in Bremen

  • A historic freebooter (pirate) village in Hanseatic style with authentic stalls, maritime costumes and live craft demonstrations.
  • More than two dozen crafts on show: blacksmiths, spice merchants, potters, felt makers, turners, cloth traders and more.
  • Riverfront food: flame-grilled salmon (Flammlachs) over wood fire, elk and wild-boar sausages, baked apples, churros, langos and falafel.
  • Hot drinks in taverns and mead halls: mead, fruit wine, mulled wine, Bremen punch and hot cocktails.
  • Daily entertainment from minstrels, musicians and jugglers; torches and fires light the promenade after dark.
  • Festively lit ships at the quay and the Schlachte bathed in blue light once the sun goes down.
  • Around 100 winter huts selling jewellery, ceramics, knitwear, toys and gift ideas – ideal for browsing and lingering by the river.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026

Schlachte-Zauber 2026 runs continuously from 23 November to 23 December. Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday 11:00–20:30, Friday and Saturday 11:00–21:30. On opening day (23 November) the market starts at 11:00; the fireworks over the Weser are scheduled for around 18:30.

Daytime is for crafts, shopping and food; evenings bring stronger lighting, torches and live entertainment. Further along the river, winter huts with an alpine-hut feel serve mulled wine, egg punch and music – a favourite after-work stop for locals. The market pairs well with Bremen’s main Christmas market in the city centre.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Bremen

  • Getting there: The Schlachte is in central Bremen. Use public transport to Am Brill (Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße); from the main station it is a short tram/bus ride or a manageable walk. Nearby parking option: BREPARKhaus Pressehaus. Check bremen.de for any temporary bridge or road works.
  • Weather and clothing: November and December on the Weser are often cold, windy and damp. Wear layers, sturdy shoes and a windproof coat; evenings on the promenade feel colder.
  • Where to stay: Old Town, the Schnoor quarter and the Viertel keep you closest to the action. Advent is peak season in Bremen – book early.
  • Best time to visit: Weekdays are usually quieter than Fridays and Saturdays. For the opening fireworks on 23 November, arrive early for a clear view of the river.
  • Combine with the main Bremen Christmas market in one day; accessibility information is available at barrierefrei.bremen.de. Always confirm hours and any programme changes on the official sites before you go.
