Visitor Tips: Travel and Accommodation in Schwaz
- Schwaz is located in the Inn Valley and reachable from Innsbruck by train in about 20 minutes
- Since the market sits on the central Maximilianplatz, the old town is largely walkable
- Warm clothing is recommended, as opening hours extend into the cooler evening
- Accommodation in and around Schwaz should be booked early for the Advent weekends
Rattenberger Advent in Austria's Smallest Town
About 15 kilometers from Schwaz, the medieval old town of Rattenberg transforms from November 20 to December 20, 2026, every Friday through Sunday into one of Tyrol's most atmospheric Christmas markets. Instead of electric lighting, only candles, torches and open fires illuminate the historic facades, accompanied by musicians and traditional folk groups. Combining the Schwazer Advent with the Rattenberger Advent works well as a joint day trip through the Inn Valley.
Christmas Markets in Innsbruck
About 30 kilometers west of Schwaz lies the Tyrolean state capital Innsbruck, home to several long standing Christmas markets, including one on the market square in front of the old town, one on Wiltener Platzl and one along Maria Theresien Straße. These markets are easily reached from Schwaz by train and make a good complement to a visit to the Schwazer Advent.
