Welcome to the Sechseläuten Zurich 2027 in Zurich
Sechseläuten is Zurich’s traditional spring festival and takes place on 18 and 19 April 2027. On Sunday the colourful children’s parade moves through the city centre, on Monday the grand guild parade is followed by the spectacular burning of the Böögg on Sechseläutenplatz. The festival symbolises the farewell to winter and the beginning of the warmer season.
Highlights & Attractions at Sechseläuten in Zurich
- Children’s parade on Sunday with up to 3,000 children in historical costumes and around 800 musicians
- Grand guild parade on Monday with more than 3,500 guild members in traditional attire
- 350 horsemen and around 30 music ensembles accompany the procession
- Burning of the Böögg at 6 p.m. on Sechseläutenplatz – the faster the head explodes, the better the summer
- Subsequent barbecue in the embers of the Böögg fire with sausages brought by visitors

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2027
On Sunday 18 April 2027 the traditional children’s parade takes place. On Monday 19 April 2027 the guild parade starts in the afternoon on lower Bahnhofstrasse and leads via Bürkliplatz and Limmatquai to Sechseläutenplatz. At 6 p.m. the pyre under the Böögg is lit. Afterwards thousands enjoy the barbecue in the embers. Sechseläuten is a public holiday in the Canton of Zurich.
Tickets & Admission for Sechseläuten Zurich
Attending Sechseläuten and watching the parades as well as the Böögg burning from the streets and squares is free of charge. Optional reserved seats for better views are available (prices will be announced in good time on the official website). Tickets can be obtained via www.sechselaeuten.ch.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Zurich
- Public transport (S-Bahn to Zurich HB or Stadelhofen) is recommended – parking is very limited
- Wear weatherproof and comfortable clothing as most of the programme takes place outdoors
- Book accommodation in Zurich early, as Sechseläuten attracts large crowds
- Arrive early at Sechseläutenplatz for the best viewing spots
- Bring sausages to grill in the embers after the Böögg burning – a genuine Zurich tradition
