Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation on Sylt

• Getting there: train to Westerland station, car on the Niebüll–Westerland car shuttle, or the Rømø–List ferry. Island buses and taxis link Westerland, Wenningstedt and Kampen. Book the car shuttle early for New Year.
• Weather: North Sea winter, with wind and possible rain or sleet. Pack warm layers, a windproof jacket, sturdy shoes and a hat. Enter the water only if a place frees up on site, and only if you are prepared. Spectators stay on the promenade.
• Where to stay: hotels and apartments go early. Westerland has the most beds, Kampen is small and in demand, Wenningstedt sits between the promenade party and the dip. Reserve a table for 31 December well ahead.
• Do not mix up Sturmhaube: Winterzauber runs until about 20:00, the open-air party from 22:00 at the same address. Check the island calendar for whether the market ends on 2 or 3 January 2027.
• No fireworks display is announced for the Musikmuschel. Private fireworks are tightly restricted in the dunes and nature reserves; follow the current municipal rules. More clubs may add nights later – only their own announcements count.
