Welcome to the New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Bolzano
Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, marks the 2026/2027 turn of the year with sport, lights, music and an Alpine Christmas atmosphere. On 31 December 2026 and 1 January 2027, celebrations focus on the historic centre around Piazza Walther, where the Christmas market is still open. The city’s official open-air party, the international BOclassic New Year’s Eve run and concerts for the new year form the core of New Year’s Eve and New Year events in Bolzano, Italy.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027
31 December 2026 starts on the run. The BOclassic South Tyrol has closed the year in the old town since 1975. The published timetable lists Just-for-Fun races from about 10:45, the Ladurner popular race at 11:30, the youth cup around 12:20, the elite men’s 10 km at 12:50 and the elite women’s 5 km at 13:30. Start and finish are on Piazza Walther; each lap is 1,250 metres through streets such as Piazza delle Erbe and Via dei Portici. Race numbers are collected on the day at the race office (Pfarrheim, Piazza Parrocchia 24).
In the evening the city turns a central square into an open-air stage. In recent editions the official New Year’s Eve party started at 21:00 (most recently on Piazza della Vittoria / Siegesplatz), with a live band, acrobats, DJ sets, a countdown on a large LED wall and a shared midnight toast; the square party often continued until 02:00. Local reporting in August 2026 suggested a shift toward Piazza Domenicani for 2026/2027, with a programme split by age group. The full line-up is usually released in December by the municipality and the tourist board. Private fireworks and firecrackers are banned in the city (fines from 100 euros). Bolzano relies on lights, visuals and music rather than an official pyrotechnic show. The Haydn Orchestra’s New Year concert in Bolzano is scheduled for Saturday 2 January 2027 at 20:00 at the Municipal Theatre (Piazza Verdi / Via Dante).
Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Bolzano
The public square celebration has been free in recent years. An official after-party (previously at Bolzano Exhibition Centre) charged a symbolic 1 euro; it is not yet confirmed whether that format returns in 2026/2027. BOclassic requires registration at boclassic.it; entry fees are published by the organiser. Tickets for the Haydn Orchestra New Year concert are sold via haydn.it and ticket.bz.it. Restaurant and hotel New Year menus in South Tyrol often range from about 80 to 150 euros per person; some rooftop galas cost more. Recheck prices and availability close to the date, because the city’s evening programme is typically finalised only in December.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Bolzano
- Arrive by train at Bolzano/Bozen station; the old town and Piazza Walther are walkable. Bolzano Airport (BZO) is small; Verona and Innsbruck are useful alternatives. Expect traffic limits and possible road closures on New Year’s Eve.
- Late December in Bolzano is cold and often frosty. Wear layers, sturdy shoes for cobblestones, and rain or snow protection. The open-air party usually goes ahead in poor weather.
- New Year’s Eve is peak season: book hotels, apartments and spa stays early. The Christmas market runs until 6 January 2027, so demand stays high after 1 January.
- Glass bottles, spirits in cordoned party zones and private fireworks are forbidden. Pets are easily frightened; unofficial firecrackers still go off in some neighbourhoods despite the ban.
- Confirm the exact square, shuttle buses and any after-party in December on bolzano-bozen.it and comune.bolzano.bz.it. For the race, use only boclassic.it for registration and course details.
