Welcome to the New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Dijon

New Year's Eve 2026/2027 in Dijon, the capital of Burgundy, mixes Christmas lights, the late-season Féeries de Noël market and a low-key midnight gathering on the city’s main squares. On 31 December 2026 and 1 January 2027 the focus is Place de la Libération in front of the Palace of the Dukes, Place Darcy and Place de la République. Dijon does not usually stage a large official municipal fireworks show at midnight; the countdown comes from crowds, church bells and the illuminated historic centre.

Highlights & Attractions at New Year's Eve in Dijon

  • Midnight gathering on Place de la Libération beneath the lit façade of the Palace of the Dukes and States of Burgundy
  • A second informal countdown on Place Darcy by Porte Guillaume
  • Christmas chalets, mulled wine and gingerbread along Place Darcy and Rue de la Liberté if Féeries de Noël again runs into early January
  • A Ferris wheel of about 40 metres and an outdoor ice rink of about 600 m² on Place de la République
  • Giant Christmas tree and carousel on Place de la Libération
  • Réveillon dinners in restaurants around the palace and late club nights across town
  • The New Year’s Day polar plunge “Éclaboussade” at Lac Kir on 1 January – a local tradition for the first day of the year

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

31 December 2026 in Dijon often starts with an afternoon and evening walk through the lit historic core. In previous seasons the Christmas market closed earlier on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve (around 21:00, with the ice rink sometimes closing at 18:00); 1 January also had shorter hours. Exact 2026/2027 opening times are usually published by the city in autumn on dijon.fr.

Unlike the 14 July pyromusical show at Lac Kir, Dijon typically does not programme a public New Year fireworks display. Crowds still gather near midnight on Place de la Libération and Place Darcy. On 1 January 2027 the Lac Kir plunge is a free local custom (in past years the meeting point was early afternoon on the main beach). Comedy marathons, restaurant dinners and club events are announced venue by venue; a single city-run concert bill for New Year’s Eve had not been published at the time of research.

Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Dijon

Access to the public squares and the Christmas market is free. Paid extras include the ice rink, Ferris wheel and carousel, lantern walking tours from the tourist office (around 15 euros in the previous season), restaurant réveillons and club nights. Festive set menus in Dijon usually range from about 80 to 180 euros per person depending on the restaurant and drinks package; cabaret dinner shows sit in a similar band. Club tickets are generally cheaper but sell out. Check destinationdijon.com and dijon.fr. Menus for 2026/2027 are typically released in November and December.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Dijon

  • Travel: TGV to Dijon-Ville (often about 1 hour 35 minutes from Paris Gare de Lyon); walk or take Divia tram lines to Darcy, Grangier or République for the historic centre.
  • Weather and clothing: late December in Dijon is often around freezing to about 6 °C; wear sturdy shoes, warm layers and gloves for a long wait outdoors.
  • Stay: hotels near Place Darcy, Rue de la Liberté and Place de la Libération book out during Christmas and New Year week – reserve early.
  • Do not plan around a city fireworks show; if you want to be at midnight, arrive early on Place de la Libération or Place Darcy.
  • On 1 January many shops and the tourist office at 11 rue des Forges stay closed; book brunch or New Year lunch ahead. The Côte-d’Or prefecture usually issues short-term rules on consumer fireworks just before the holidays.
