31 December 2026 is a Thursday. In recent years the Friedensplatz party opened doors around 19:00, with the programme from 20:00 until about 02:00 on New Year's morning. The usual flow is family-friendly acts first, then decades of dance hits, a midnight countdown with fireworks, then house and techno. Glass, personal pyrotechnics and private fireworks are banned inside the party perimeter. Outside that zone, Dortmund has recently not imposed city-wide firework ban areas; national rules still prohibit fireworks next to churches, hospitals, care homes and highly flammable buildings.

Informal gatherings also form around Reinoldi Church and Platz von Leeds. Clubs typically start later. 1 January 2027 is a public holiday: shops stay closed, Konzerthaus Dortmund usually hosts a New Year concert, and Winter Lights continues in Westfalenpark in early January. The official Friedensplatz party cost EUR 5 plus booking fee in 2025/2026; children aged 10 and under entered free with a guardian. Tickets were online advance sales only, with no box office on the night. Whether the 2026/2027 price stays the same is not yet confirmed. Club tickets typically range from about EUR 16 to EUR 45. Winter Lights in Westfalenpark is a separate ticket (around EUR 8 for adults and EUR 4 for ages 6–11 in the previous season; under 6 free). Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Dortmund

• Use DSW21 trams, buses and the H-Bahn. On New Year's Eve service is often cut back after about 22:00, with NachtExpress night buses from Reinoldi Church later on. Driving and inner-city garages are a poor choice; walk from the main station if you can.
• Dress for near-freezing temperatures, wind and possible rain or snow. Waterproof layers, sturdy shoes, hat and gloves; seating on Friedensplatz is limited.
• Book hotels near the main station, Friedensplatz or Westfalenpark early — city rooms sell out around New Year.
• If you set off private fireworks, use only BAM-approved Category F2 items outdoors and keep clear of balconies, bins and dry plants. Do not relight duds.
