Welcome to the New Year's Eve & New Year Celebrations 2026/2027 in Menton
Menton, the “Pearl of the Riviera” on the French–Italian border, marks the 2026/2027 New Year with lights, a Mediterranean skyline and a more elegant night than a mega street party. The main celebrations run from 31 December 2026 to 1 January 2027 around the Promenade du Soleil, the Jardins Bioves, Esplanade Francis-Palmero and the Palais de l'Europe. The full official New Year's Eve 2026 line-up is usually released in late autumn; the city nevertheless follows a familiar pattern of Christmas market, family shows, midnight fireworks, a New Year concert and a later New Year swim.
Highlights & Attractions at New Year's Eve in Menton
- Midnight fireworks over the bay along the Promenade du Soleil and Baie des Sablettes, if the city repeats its usual public display.
- Christmas market and festive lighting on Esplanade Francis-Palmero and the Mail du Bastion, typically running into early January.
- Seasonal decorations, carousels and family entertainment in the central Jardins Bioves.
- Hotel and restaurant gala dinners (reveillon menus), often with a dress code and limited seats.
- Traditional New Year concert on 1 January at the Palais de l'Europe / Theatre Francis-Palmero.
- Evening walks through the pastel old town toward the Basilica of Saint-Michel and the sea.
- New Year swim at Les Sablettes in the first days of January, a long-standing Menton ritual.

Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027
New Year in Menton is a city-wide celebration rather than a single ticketed festival. On the afternoon of 31 December, Jardins Bioves often hosts a holiday show; in 2025/2026 the “Odyssee” performance ran from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. The evening then shifts to the Christmas market, hotel galas and the seafront. Coverage of the last edition mentioned spectacular midnight fireworks over the water; whether Menton confirms the same format for 31 December 2026 should be checked shortly before the date on menton.fr and menton-riviera-merveilles.fr.
1 January is traditionally devoted to classical music. The Concert du Nouvel An at the Palais de l'Europe (8 avenue Boyer) is a fixture: in 2026 the Orchestra Filarmonica del Piemonte performed works by Verdi, Bizet and Strauss. Tickets were 7 euros, free for under-14s and Menton conservatory students. The 2027 programme had not been published as of early September 2026. In the first days of January the city usually organises the Bain du Nouvel An at Les Sablettes (on-site registration in the morning, swim later that morning). Menton stays smaller and calmer than Nice or Cannes: fewer mass events, more Riviera light, citrus scent and mild winter air.
Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Menton
Access to the promenade, Christmas market and most outdoor entertainment is generally free. The New Year concert at the Palais de l'Europe cost 7 euros in the last edition, with tickets via the Menton, Riviera & Merveilles Tourist Office and its website. Restaurant and club galas typically range from about 80 to 150 euros per person (one 2025/2026 example: La Perle Noire gala at 150 euros, limited places). Hotel reveillon menus must be booked directly with each property. Final 2026/2027 prices were not all published by September 2026; check the official agenda before you book. All figures above are in euros.
Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Menton
- Getting there: Menton sits on the Nice–Ventimiglia TER line; Menton station is central. By car, use the A8 and the Menton exit. On New Year's Eve prefer trains or walking, as seafront roads may close for crowds and fireworks.
- Weather and dress: Menton is among the mildest winter spots on the French Riviera, often 10–15°C. Still pack a warm layer, sturdy shoes and a windproof jacket for the midnight promenade.
- Stay: Hotels and apartments in the old town, on the Promenade du Soleil and in Garavan sell out around the turn of the year. Book early, especially if you want a hotel reveillon dinner.
- Fireworks viewpoint: The Promenade du Soleil, Quai Bonaparte and Baie des Sablettes have offered the best views in recent years. Arrive well before midnight.
- Border location: Italy (Ventimiglia) and Monaco are close. If you travel on 1 January, expect reduced opening hours and busy regional trains. Latest details: Tourist Office, Palais de l'Europe, 8 avenue Boyer.
