Program & Schedule: What to Expect in 2026/2027

On 31 December 2026 the Volkstheater Rostock presents New Year's Eve concerts in its 2026/27 season. The North German Philharmonic performs Ludwig van Beethoven at the Grosses Haus, with afternoon and evening slots on 31 December as well as concerts on the preceding evenings. At the same time, hotels, the casino club, harbour tents and city clubs host dinners, DJs and midnight toasts. The Rostock Christmas Market closes on 22 December 2026 and is no longer part of the New Year programme.

The main public spectacle is the Warnemuende Turmleuchten on 1 January 2027, widely described as the region's largest New Year event and free of charge. A live warm-up usually starts in the afternoon; the lighthouse production begins in the early evening and lasts around half an hour. Good viewpoints include the promenade, parts of the beach outside restricted zones and the Alter Strom canal. Coastal weather can force changes, so check rostock.de and warnemuender-turmleuchten.de close to the date for confirmed start times.

Tickets & Admission for New Year's Eve Rostock

Turmleuchten itself has no admission fee. Budget instead for concerts, club nights and gala menus. Party tickets often start around 27 EUR, philharmonic and theatre seats typically sit in the mid two-digit euro range depending on category, and festive dinners or hotel packages can exceed 100 EUR per person. Volkstheater tickets are sold at the box office at Doberaner Strasse 134/135 and on the theatre website. Hotel and club tickets are sold by the venues and standard ticket platforms. Detailed 2026/2027 party line-ups are often published only in late autumn.

Visitor Tips: Travel & Accommodation in Rostock

  • Travel by S-Bahn, bus or ferry: Warnemuende is largely closed to private cars for Turmleuchten, and extra S-Bahn services are usually added.
  • Wear warm, windproof layers and sturdy shoes; New Year nights on the Baltic are often wet, windy and close to freezing.
  • Book rooms in Warnemuende, the old town or the city harbour early, because many visitors extend their stay for the lighthouse show.
  • Do not plan private fireworks on nature and bathing beaches; keep the usual safety distances from churches, hospitals and fuel stations.
  • Arrive early for Turmleuchten, expect large crowds and use official park-and-ride sites at the district entrances.
